Grunting in exertion, (Y/N) finally was able to cut a perfect slot into her wall, the hole deep enough in depth and length to slide the Death Note in.

"What are you doing?" Edu inquired with a slight tilt of his head in intrigue.

His question was then answered when she placed the Death Note in the space, watching as she also pushed the bookcase that she had originally moved out of the way back, the opening barely above one of the shelves. Thinning her lips, she exhaled when finally replacing all books back onto the shelf.

"Isn't that more work for you, having to take all those book back off just to reach the hiding space that you've made?" Edu pointed out, his jagged grin seeming to widen when she exhaled softly before turning to face him.

"Isn't it obvious?"

"No, not really."

Clicking her tongue, (Y/N) gave a low grunt as she slid down the wall, setting the cutter that she had used to dig into said wall down before pulling her knees up to her chest, tilting her head upward so that she was looking up at him, proclaiming, "You only mentioned to me yesterday that if anyone else touched the Death Note, they'd be able to see you. I can't exactly explain away the presence of a Shinigami if I want to keep my identity a secret. I've thought this over throughout yesterday, and I've come to a conclusion."

"And what was that?" Edu hummed in thought. "Does it have anything to do with your visit to the chemistry classroom?"

"Yes, entirely," she smiled, gesturing with her hand upward. "I've made this entirely set up to erase any evidence regarding the Death Note."

"Oh?"

"You may think this task tedious, but I have a system in place to make it not," (Y/N) further explained with a raised finger. "If you look closely, there are two wires connecting to small nozzles inside the space that I've created for the notebook, and inside those wires, is electricity that if conducted, will light the gasoline inside the nozzles."

"Sounds pretty complicated," he commented, scratching his chin as he took her word and indeed looked closer. "My only question is: how will this trick be started?"

"This book," she replied, standing up once more and placing a finger against said object's spine.

"How would that light a fire?"

"If someone were to lift this book off the shelf, it would make the two little clasps on each side of it connect, sparking the electricity up, however... the key is this," she proclaimed with a smile whilst holding up a pencil, then inserting the utensil under the book and sliding it up to reveal the slot and Death Note. "Ta-da."

"Ooh, fancy."

"It's convenient since this book is also wide enough to cover any trace of the space."

"How did you come up with this nifty invention?"

"I asked myself what Light would do."

"Huh?" The Shinigami grunted in confusion, turning over her answer in his mind and still not able to come up with the conclusion on how that was her answer. "Why Light? I thought you no longer saw him as someone worthy of looking up to."

"It's not his worth that attracted me to him... it's how clever he was," (Y/N) shrugged as she settled into her chair. "He outsmarted L, the greatest detective in the world, who apparently was also the second and third greatest as well. That just shows how cunning and manipulative he was. When thinking about Light and how he went about infiltrating the Kira investigation, I thought about pre-investigation as well. He must have thought of something to hide his notebook, and hide it well. This was the only idea I could think he used as well, albeit with slight differences of course."

"Well... you are right about that," Edu revealed, making her smile twitch with absolute glee. "Light did use the same technique as you, only his Death Note was hidden under a fake bottom in his desk. He used that same little fire trick. It certainly impressed Ryuk, and now I know why."

"Because I was able to think of it as well?"

"Naturally," the Shinigami uttered with a clacking jaw. "You never met Light, nor could you have ever spoken to him. What's impressive, really, about this feat is how you were able to guess almost exactly how he was able to hide his Death Note without ever knowing the guy. I must say you are a natural genius. Now though, is what are you planning next?"

"This," (Y/N) spoke as she threw something in the air, Edu catching it and parting his fingers from his palm to reveal a shiny, red apple—he was even able to see his reflection in the fruit's surface. "You mentioned before that your world was rotting, and that Ryuk loved apples, so I just took a guess and thought that maybe you enjoyed them as well."

"Hm... that's awfully nice of you," Edu murmured, eyeing the food in concentration. "You're in luck. I do quite enjoy the apples of the human realm compared to those of the Shinigami realm."

Just as a smile graced her lips, the sound of the doorknob turning quickly made the look flee, (Y/N) having to quickly throw herself on her desk to make it look like she had been studying like she had told Mio. Expecting to see her, her (E/C) eyes only narrowed when spotting Wayne in the doorway. His outline against the light of hallway made his expression hard to see, but she didn't have to see it to know that he was frowning.

"Dad..." (Y/N) straightened. "You're home early."

"Yeah," he spoke, closing the door behind him and sitting on the edge of her bed, his elbows leaning against the hard bone of his knee.

Her brow ticked.

What's with him?

This kind of interaction... it isn't normal.

At least for my father, it isn't.

"Your grades have slipped," Wayne interrupted her thoughts, his voice deep with a hard edge to it, almost seeming as if it would crush her along with the disappointing look set in his seemingly dead blue eyes. "You were in the highest percentile for so long and now... you've averaged out. It's disappointing, (Y/N). Truly, it is."
