I wonder if L is dead yet?
(Y/N) smirked to herself as she lounged at her desk, feeling quite pleased with herself. She knew from Arata's brief text that tonight was the night that he would be going to kill Near, and now she was sitting on pins and needles waiting for confirmation.
She needed it.
She needed to win.
To become Kira's Successor, she had to do what he couldn't: destroy L once and for all.
But she didn't need a notebook to do that.
All she needed was a knife.
Arata had proved himself more than worthy to be her knife, so she would use him for all that he could give her until she disposed of him.
It was simple.
Easy.
Quick.
She laughed.
"Oh? What are you so pleased about?" Ryuk asked out of curiosity, laying on her bed with an apple in hand, already a bite taken out of the fruit.
"Do you need to know?" She raised a brow as she turned in her chair to face him.
"Why not?" He ate the rest of his apple—core and all—as he sat up, an unknown emotion gleaming within his dead eyes. "I'm not the only curious one. Isn't that right, Edu?"
(Y/N) glanced to said Shinigami who was leaning against one of the walls of her room, the shadowy corner suiting him and his rather broody expression. However, what she didn't know was that he was just as impatient as her to hear back from Arata, wanting to know what their fates would be. He already knew who would die first, but he wanted to know exactly how they died and who caused it.
That was the real question.
"He's curious, he just won't admit it," Ryuk gave a raspy chuckle, his sharp teeth glinting in the low light of the room. "Won't you tell us already? What your big plan is, I mean."
"Since you're so insistent..." she hummed as she tapped a finger against her chin. "...I'll tell you."
"Nice," Ryuk smiled.
"I'll have you know that planning all of this was not easy," (Y/N) started, crossing her arms over her chest and having both Shinigami a pointed look. "Especially since this L was the one that dealt the finishing blow to Light Yagami. But... that sort of mindset is exactly why he slipped up."
"Really?" Ryuk's smile broadened. "Do tell."
"This current L is analytical, thoughtful, emotionless... or so he seems," she snickered, her lips curving into a rather wicked look that suited her. "From the very first day that he met me... he already screwed himself over. He allowed himself to fall victim to my game that I played—one that no man can ever resist." She thought back to how flustered Near was whenever she had gotten close to him, continuing, "But I have to say, I wasn't planning on Hayato Arata's appearance, but so what? He worked well into my plans since he was a useful pawn that did anything I asked."
"Reminds me a little too much of Light's relationship with that Misa girl," Ryuk hummed as he scratched his shock of black hair.
"Hm... but Misa Amane didn't have what it took to assist Light," (Y/N) shook her head as she thought about the late ditsy actress. "She was too consumed with what she wanted from Light instead of what she could give him. Not only did she have the Eyes, but she had a Shinigami that bowed down to her whims. If she had been smarter, she nor Light would have died."
Ryuk nodded at (Y/N)'s words, saying, "That's true, hehe. I can't lie to ya there."
"Exactly!" She extended her arms widely in triumph as an ecstatic grin split her face. "Which is why Arata was much more useful to me than Misa ever was to Light. And besides, they also relied too much on their Death Notes. Why do that when you can just finish the job yourself? Of course, I made the error of confiscating Arata's Death Note too early since I assumed he would be questioned... and that allowed the opportunity to learn L's real name slip from my grasp... but no matter. Once Arata kills L, that will only solidify his abilities as a murderer. And when he's caught—and I know that he will be—then Ryuk's Death Note that I slipped into his bag will be found, cementing his guilt."
"But what about you?" Edu spoke up for the first time since (Y/N) had unraveled her plan. "What will you do after? They already know you've killed people... without L's protection, you'll just be locked up."
(Y/N) waved away his concern.
His eyes narrowed.
Ryuk cackled.
"Everything is all worked out, so why should I worry about that?" She mused, standing up and grabbing a hold of the handle of her suitcase.
Walking down the stairs with the two Shinigami in tow, (Y/N) stopped. Her head then turned so she could stare at the bodies of her parents that were sitting silently at the dinner table, a single stab wound present in each of their necks. The dinner in front of them had long gone cold, but they no longer had any use for it, nor for any other material object.
She scowled at the sight.
Goodbye, Mother, Father.
"Isn't it amusing?" She hummed to the two behind her. "A Father who berated me... and a Mother who could do nothing but watch. Aren't I pathetic? Well... both made my life miserable. I hope they know that now, wherever they are in Hell."
Turning, she exited the house.
Just as she was about to slide into her car, something metallic and heavy hit her over the head.
She slumped to the ground.
When someone turned her over, her bleary eyes were only able to catch sight of vibrant, white hair before her vision faded to black, their final words then filtering through her ears, "It seems that you have lost our little game, (L/N)(Y/N), Kira's Successor. Now... you are mine, and I will never let you go."
Never.
