__________________________________"Hey, (Y/N)!" Ayako called out to her friend as she ran up to her, setting a hand on her shoulder to further gain her attention, smiling brightly when she turned around. "What are you doing over here?"
"Ah... hi, Ayako," (Y/N) greeted. "And... I just thought I saw something. Guess I was wrong.
Shrugging, (Y/N) fell into step beside Ayako while they continued walking into school, staying silent as Ayako chattered on and on about the latest gossip and trends that she never could keep up with. Then again, Ayako was just like that—the epitome of an average college student.
It's the perfect cover for me.
No one would suspect me because of the type of people I chose as friends, along with the fact of how I keep second in school instead of trying to obtain first place.
Light was a student, but there were too many coincidences around him.
I can't make the same mistake.
Even if it was all planned on his part to infiltrate and observe the investigation to L.
Waving a brief goodbye to Ayako, the smile that (Y/N) had kept plastered along her lips disappeared immediately diaspores as soon as she turned around. She didn't want to put in the effort to keep up niceties around the swarm of unknown students that still loitered in the halls. Slipping into her classroom, she made a beeline toward a desk in the back.
"You usually sit in the front," Edu commented, turning with her to approach said direction, now lugging his staff over his shoulder. "What's with the sudden change?"
"It's been a week now," she murmured, pulling out the Death Note disguised as a normal notebook, immediately opening it to reveal the names of all those that she had killed prior. "It was immediately suggested that the times of deaths of criminals killed were fit perfectly to a student's schedule. If I'm able to start eliminating criminals during the day as well as morning and night, it'll throw anyone that would be investigating off."
"That was the same problem Light ran in to."
"I know that," she scoffed as she used her phone to search up news articles related to criminal activity, swiping her pen almost eagerly against the page as name after name soon appeared. "But he waited further into L's investigation of him to start doing so. I only waited seven days."
This is my loyalty to the world.
Picking off the rot and decay of the world one at a time, cleansing it until its pure...
This is my gift to you, to humanity.
Edu beside her watched as she didn't falter for a second, ignoring the buzz of the people around her, ignoring anything that related to the outside of the small bubble she found herself in, only focusing on the task in front of her that she deemed worthy of completing and seeing it through.
I was even luckier than I imagined.
This human that has picked up my note is almost exactly how Ryuk described Light Yagami. The only difference is that their reasoning is different. He was a person that strove to be a God out of boredom, stemming from the hate and brutality of the human realm.
She, on the other hand, feeds on that hate.
She craves for it.
And then she eradicates it.
She doesn't want to be a God, nor does she strive for anything more.
All it is, really, is hate.
Hate.
Hate.
Hate.
(Y/N), even distracted with writing, could practically feel the excitement drifting from Edu, a fact that she smirked at. Just before class began, she promptly shut the notebook before quietly sliding it back into her bag. Taking out her normal notebook, she tried to run into another bonding lecture, yet Edu's next words distracted her.
"You should be careful, (Y/N)," he chuckled, watching as she flicked her eyes upward to meet his, the look practically demanding that he continue. "Even though you are the owner of the Death Note, as soon as someone else touches that notebook, they will be able to see me."
Her brow ticked.
He waits until now to tell me?
With the intensity that seemed to burn right through him, she stared up at Edu with a type of coldness that he hadn't expected.
Look at that... she's not intimidated at all by the fact that I'm a Shinigami.
That's intriguing. As Edu continued following (Y/N) around, he noticed that she only took the Death Note out one other time before stowing it away permanently until lunch, by that time most everyone talking about the appearance of a new Kira, including Ayako who (Y/N) was currently sitting with outside.
"Did you hear?" Ayako whimpered nervously as she twirled her noodles with her chopsticks. "Kira is back. I thought he was dead!"
Hiding her grin behind the spoonful of rice that she ate, (Y/N) smoothened out her features into one of normalcy before answering, "Kira is dead."
"T-Then why are they talking about a recent spike in unnatural heart attack victims!"
"Kira is dead... but I'm guessing his power is not."
"What?" Ayako gaped at (Y/N), her lips opening and closing like a fish while her eyes bugged out of their sockets in slight shock. "His... power? What are you talking about?"
"Think about it," (Y/N) spoke again after swallowing a bite, washing down the food with some water. "Kira was able to kill without even being present in the room. Adding to the fact that there was another killer who had the same technique as he... it makes sense to think that instead of a person or collective group, it's... more of a weapon, per se."
"'A... weapon?'"
"Mmhm."
"But... they never announced to the public how Kira even killed," Ayako uttered fretfully.
"That's true," (Y/N) nodded, pointing her spoon toward Ayako as her lips curled upwards into a small smile. "But again... the evidence overwhelms the support of that fact."
Edu behind her chuckled, the sound shaking his thin, rather skeletal frame.
Well... look at that.
Already people are beginning to fear her, even the people who regard her as a 'friend.'
Good thing that is exactly what she wants.
