"Honey, look at this."

(Y/N) glanced up at her mother's voice, meeting Mio's worried eyes as she was gesturing for her to come into the living room. Exhaling softly, however complying with Mio's wishes, she placed her palms against the table where she had been eating and pushed herself up, Edu following her as she walked into the more widened space, her eyes focusing on the television screen that was switched on.

"What's wrong, Mom?" She questioned.

"L's successor... he's making an announcement!" Mio answered, and no sooner than the words had slipped past her lips did the screen switch over to reveal a gothic font L.

"I... am L," the same warbled voice from the conference prior to that day announced. "As many of you are aware, I am the successor of L, and the one who was able to use gathered information to capture and dispose of Kira. Now... there seems to be another with that same power of killing. Kira's successor, as that's what I've deemed to call you, I hope you know that I will hunt you down and catch you for the crime of murder. There is no escaping from that fate."

(Y/N) almost wanted to laugh.

Is this guy stupid?

"You've provided me many useful hints, especially as to where you are, so I'll give you a hint of my own," L continued."

What?

Oh...

Her eyes then widened and she inhaled sharply upon remembrance of the first victim that she had killed, something that was a little more than an experiment for her in testing the Death Note's abilities.

So that's how.

They must've been monitoring any suspicious activity related to heart attacks.

I can't blame them, though.

If I'm looking from their point of view on Kira and how he killed, being someone investigating him, I would take no chances.

Placing a finger to her lip, (Y/N) furrowed her brows and clicked her tongue when a sudden thought flew through her mind, a small sigh leaving from her nose at the consequences of Kira's actions.

Right.

They mentioned somewhere that they would be installing more cameras and the like.

To make sure nothing like Kira happened again.

But it's too late for that.

"I'm currently on my way to the Kanto region of Japan, a place where I'm sure you are residing, Successor," L uttered, Mio reacting in a way that one would think someone precious to her had passed away considering that was where they lived. "I suspect it will be very easy to find you if you keep trying to follow in Kira's footsteps, along with all his prior mistakes too, of course."

Gritting her teeth, (Y/N) smiled tightly.

The very thought of not finishing what Kira started all because of L...

I won't stand for it.

"Kira's successor, if you are in fact listening, please be aware that your little game of killing will be over promptly," L finished his speech with little change to his tone, making (Y/N) realize he was all but confidant that he would find her and kill her. "Make no mistake of that."

With that, the announcement was over.

"My..." Mio exhaled, hand to her chest as she tried to calm her rapid breathing that came with the fright of knowing another killer was occupying the part of the country where her and her family lived in. "This is almost unreal. First it was L versus Kira, and now... it's their successors. It's almost like the plot of a story or a movie... but it's real life. That's what makes it all the more terrifying, wouldn't you agree, dear?"

Silence answered her.

(Y/N) could only stare at the screen, no emotion showing on her face that could give away her thoughts. Mio glanced at her, puzzled, placing a hand on her shoulder.

"Hm?" She snapped out of her trance. "Oh... I agree, mom. It is terrifying."

No...

I cannot allow someone like that to uproot the very demand of my being.

Discarding her breakfast and waving a brief goodbye to Mio, (Y/N) then proceeded to stalk out of the door with Edu frantically following after her. His club dragged on the ground behind him as he walked, staring at (Y/N) quizzically.

"Where are we going?" He questioned, flapping his bony wings to keep up with her.

"Out."

Humming in response to her brief answer, the Shinigami couldn't help but ask, "That doesn't really answer my question though, does it? I'm sure it has something to do with that new L's announcement on TV, but you already said yourself that you weren't going to bother becoming involved in the investigation, so why look so irritated now?"

"I am irritated, that is only natural," she muttered, slowing down briefly to check to make sure no one was in earshot of her conversation. "But, I'm not going to get involved, if that is what you're asking."

"Oh, yeah?"

"I'm not risking it," she sighed, the cold wind blowing and rustling her hair and making her shove her hands into her jacket's pockets.

"Hm..." Edu hummed once more.

(Y/N) narrowed her eyes.

I merely came outside to clear my head.

After all, if I let my emotions get the better of me, then I'll only be proving L's words right.

"You came down here for entertainment, correct?" She then inquired of the Shinigami, hooding her eyes slightly in suspicion, continuing when he nodded in affirmation. "Don't worry. You'll soon be entertained very soon."

Edu's red eyes glimmered in intrigue.

How fun.
