"I'm home," (Y/N) called out upon stepping inside her house, her mother already approaching her from the living room while she slipped off her shoes.

"Hello, dear," her mother, Mio, greeted whilst walking with (Y/N) toward the kitchen, then handing her a small plate of fruit. "I made you a small snack for when you're studying."

"Thanks, mom."

Ending the short and brief conversation, having grown further apart from her parents since growing up, (Y/N) walked up the stairs with the plate in hand before closing the door of her room behind her and turning on the light. Digging through her bag, she placed the strange notebook that had fallen suddenly from the sky on her desk as she sat down. Flipping the cover open, her brows raised when seeing scribbled writing in white along the back.

Oh?

'Whoever's name is written in this notebook shall die?' Is this a prank?

Her eyes then widened before she slammed her hands down and abruptly stood up, her lips twitching in an almost unrestrained snarl.

No...

What if it's because whoever set this up knows what I do? Knows whose ideals I follow?

"(Y/N)!" Mio called, running up the stairs and making said girl scramble to quickly cover the Death Note with her school textbooks before grabbing her foot and scratching softly at the skin to make it seem irritated, her expression contorting in a pained expression just as her door opened to reveal the concerned woman. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah..." she groaned, rubbing her foot softly. "Just... banged my foot against my chair."

"Oh, okay... please be more careful," she sighed  as she let a small puff of air escape from her nostrils before closing the door behind her, missing the darkening glare of her daughter.

I may be overthinking this, but I can't help it.

Let's just... test this just to be sure.

Sitting back down, flipping a lock of her (H/L) hair behind her ear, she moved her books away to reveal the Death Note, allowing her eyes glide along the rest of the rules. The first rule was how the note would not take effect unless the writer had the person's face in their mind when writing their name so those with the same name wouldn't be affected. The second rule was how the cause of death was to be written within the next 40 seconds of writing the person's name since, if not specified, the person would simply die of a heart attack. If specified, the details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.
