The building was large with glistening windows inset into the white concrete, various flags from various nations planted outside. A meeting with several important people all representing their own nations as seen from the flags outside occurred deep inside said building in a dark, crowded room.
"It's happening again," an older man announced, his hands clasped together and resting against the lower half of his face in grim reassessment. "Somehow... Kira is killing again."
"No... this isn't Kira," another spoke up, this one being a representative of Japan, his gaze lowered to his table and his fingers curling into a fist. "I watched Kira die... so it can't be him. This is someone else."
"What!?"
"'Someone else?'"
"We still don't know how Kira killed, and now you're saying another person has gained such power!?"
"Listen up," a stern-looking woman spoke up. "This new Kira, or whatever the hell they're called, is killing people the same as the original. Only now... they can use their predecessor's downfall to their advantage to make sure the same fate doesn't befall them."
"What's worse is now they're killing everyone everywhere," another muttered, the sound however large enough to reach other ears. "We can't even pinpoint their location like last time."
"Yeah, and the kill every other hour or so."
"Everyone, please calm down," the warbled voice that spoke from a computer monitor requested, everyone immediately complying as all ceased to speak. "Thank you. Now, what many of you are saying is right. Kira is dead, or at least the one unmasked as Light Yagami, is. The people in this room are the only ones who know that he, along with Kyosuke Higuchi and Teru Mikami, both deceased, donned the name Kira. However, they were both pawns of the original Kira. The person we're dealing with now is... a successor."
"You're the former L's successor and the one who was finally able to bring the original Kira down," a delegate in the back started, raising his voice even louder so that everyone could hear. "Now, how do you plan on taking down this... successor of Kira's when they have an obvious advantage over us?"
Everyone fell quiet, waiting for the new L's answer, the only sound in the room being the small crackle of static that the computer relayed.
"Well," L hummed. "Kira's successor has already given me a helpful clue."
"What?"
"They have?"
"What is it?"
Instantly, many started talking again.
Two men stayed quiet, though.
"Aizawa..." Matsuda murmured to the man next to him, running a hand through his shoulder length hair. "This isn't looking too good."
"Yeah," Aizawa exhaled as he leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest as he glared down at the computer that only showcased an L, the gothic font swirling around the screen. "Matsuda... because of Light, because of the Kira case, it's made me rethink many things."
"Huh?"
"I'm... terrified," Aizawa confessed, ignoring the way Matsuda's dark eyes widened from what he was saying. "I'm terrified that more people that I care about will die because of this supposed successor."
"Aizawa..." Matsuda exhaled softly with a small shake of his head, his fists tightening from where they rested atop his thighs. "As soon as the first couple people who died of heart attacks was known... this was bound to happen—that we'd go against our fear and better nature to once again fight against this person who believes that they are a God."
"That was Light, though," Aizawa uttered. "This new Kira... they may be only be doing it for fun."
"...that is a pretty twisted outlook."
The two cut off their conversation when the new L started speaking again, their attention, along with everyone else's, turning towards the front as he announced, "Kira's successor is in Japan."
"Japan, again!?" Aizawa shot up.
"Yes," L confirmed without hesitation. "The first criminal that died by this successor's hand was in Kamakura, and had been evading the police for quite some time until he was finally caught. His capture was filmed live. This was all an experiment, I'm guessing, since this happened a little less than two weeks ago, meaning Kira's successor hasn't been killing for long."
"Wow..." someone murmured.
"He really is L's successor..." another claimed. "I've had my doubts about him, but even I couldn't point out where the first killing was..."
Murmurs shifted throughout the conference room in acceptance and approval of Near and his intellect, along with his authority in leading the investigation on Kira's successor.
"I'll also have to ask for the full, additional cooperation of Japan's National Police Agency," L continued after a beat.
"Consider it granted," Aizawa complied, Matsuda nodding along with him.
"At any rate, I'd like to set up the investigation headquarters in Japan, along with bringing in any other members of the previous task force who worked on the original Kira case," L further stated once access had been granted to him. "They'll be able to prove more useful insight on how to catch this successor considering they've managed to catch the original. That is all."With a click of a button, the computer screen went dark, and the dark figure that had brought in the computer gave the conference room a small bow before packing up and leaving. Narrowing his brown eyes, Aizawa turned out the rest of the muttering of the delegates.
Near...
He operates just like the former L. But, if this 'successor' is anything like Light Yagami...
No.
I don't even want to think about it.
As the meeting wrapped up, Near sat on the floor of a dark room in a rather indiscriminate location, the only light being the soft glow of the computer in front of him, a pale finger twirling a lock of his even paler hair around.
Kira's successor...
I wonder how our game will play out?
If anything, it will only result in the same conclusion as last time: evil being defeated.
Humming in thought, he pulled one knee to his chest while the other splayed out in front of him, the other hand that wasn't tousling his hair stacking rows of small ladders on top of one another. The ladders looked to be in the shape equivalent of a small, multi-colored building.
I want to see where this will go.
Picking up a small figurine, a black hat and mask covering its face to look like a criminal, he used a nearby pen to write on its body.
I'll call you, Kira-S.
