"What—" Mogi turned around only to be met with a blade across his throat, his eyes widening before his gaze went dull and he fell to the floor with a solid and resounding thud.

Arata stood above him.

This is almost too easy, it's pathetic.

After receiving a phone call from Yuuki Noguchi, Arata jumped into his car and sped off into the night towards Near's accommodations, his expression a mask while his lips were set into a thin line. He had already scoped out the building's layout beforehand and narrowed down which room Near was likely to be in, but he was still nervous.

And it was because of (Y/N).

He couldn't fail her.

If he did, no longer would he be able to feel her touch, see her smile, or hear her laugh.

It would all be lost to him.

He remembered the first moment he saw her: they had passed each other briefly on the streets of Hadano, their shoulders having even brushed momentarily. She didn't even seem to notice his existence, but he noticed hers, and almost immediately found himself enraptured by everything about her. Even though he found such an instance strange, he didn't question it. Nor did he question his decision to move miles away so he could attend her school and see her.

He found everything he did worth it.

Including this.

Knocking out or killing every single guard in his path, disabling security when he needed to, Arata was a force that couldn't be stopped. No alarms were raised, no one could shout for help, and nothing was able to stop him from completing the task that he was given. Already he had disposed of Mogi and Lidner, two of the five agents that (Y/N) specifically pointed out for him to get rid of, and now he only needed to find them and Near.

It was easy.

Too easy.

But he couldn't allow such victories to go to his head too quickly.

It doesn't matter, since I will win.

And once this is done... she'll finally be mine.

He thought about how he would be able to spend more time with (Y/N), how he would be able to see her proud of him, be able to kiss her again. Such thoughts spurred him on, his obsession and infatuation with her stemming from a darkness within him that he didn't recognize since he no longer had his memories intact—not that he knew—but he didn't care.

All he wanted was her.

Her praise.

Her affections.

Her time.

Everything.

Even if it meant murdering another, he would do so to obtain her.

Just as Arata was about to turn a corner, the metallic clicking of heels against floor made him stop short, barely peeking around the wall to see Matsuda and Gevanni approaching him, coffee and paper bags in their hands as they talked. They didn't know of the carnage hidden but surrounding them. They didn't know of the murderer before them.

They didn't know.

Before they could even scream, Arata had already lunged out from his hiding place to slice their throats open, their food and drinks falling from their hands to stain the glittering surface of the building dark. Matsuda immediately fell to the ground, dead, blood pooling around his head. Gevanni was still conscious however, his hands grasping at his slit neck in hopes of somehow stopping the bleeding, his breathing uncontrollable as he gasped and spluttered.

Arata stared down at him in disgust.

"You all are honestly so pathetic, aren't you?" He sneered as he grabbed Gevanni by his hair, pulling his head upward so his blue eyes met his. "But to think that you would try and take (Y/N) from me..."

Gevanni choked at her name.

"...it makes me sick."

With that said, Arata plunged his knife into Gevanni's skull.

His body dropped in a heap.

Cleaning the blood from his blade, Arata continued through every single floor until every single person he found there was dead or dying. All that was left was the twenty-third and final floor, the floor that he knew Near would be on.

He smiled wickedly.

This is it, Nathaniel Rokuta, or whatever the hell your name is.

I'm gonna kill you.

I'm gonna kill you for trying to take (Y/N).

For trying to take my (Y/N).

It was wrong.

It was wrong.

It was wrong.

You can never have her.

Just as he was about to grip the door handle and slam it open, he breathed in sharply when someone else did so before him.

"Alright," Aizawa sighed. "I'm calling it a night, see you tomor—"

His eyes met Arata's.

He then glanced behind him.

Blood.

So much blood.

Before Aizawa could even think of alerting Near who was still inside, Arata slapped his hand over his mouth and swiftly turned him around so that he was able to promptly shut the door. Twisting Aizawa's arm around his back, Arata shoved him to the ground, shoving a piece of cloth into his mouth so he wouldn't be able to scream.

"Huh... that was close..." Arata hummed, watching as Aizawa struggled. "A bit too close for my taste..."

Tilting his head to the side, he looked into Aizawa's eyes and saw a murderous rage within the hues. It was one that he had seen many times by looking into a mirror, but there was something else behind that in Aizawa's eyes compared to his own.

There was fear.

It was fear of the soul when it knew that its host's body would die.

Arata loved such a look.

Stabbing Aizawa in the throat, watching as he choked on his own blood before dying, Arata waited until he knew he was fully dead before getting off the body. Straightening out his clothes and slicking back his hair with his hand, he let out a slow breath when knowing that the final act was about to begin.

This is it, (Y/N).

This is where I kill him for you.

As Arata turned towards the door, he didn't notice the edge of a notebook with the cover scrawled in vivid white ink peering out from the slit in his bag that was made due to Aizawa's struggles. Nor did he notice that he was willingly waltzing right into a trap.
