"A mistake?" Near raised a brow, his dark eyes never once leaving (Y/N)'s own. "Why do you say that?"

"Well..." (Y/N) drawled out, giving him a slight smirk as she tapped one finger against her lip. "You're the one who caught the original Kira, isn't that right? And... aren't you also the one who the original L specifically chose to take over that case? If that truly is what happened, then I'm sure you knew exactly how to catch Kira, and what exactly he was using to do his killings. Something that I certainly don't possess."

Edo laughed at her bold remark.

"And what makes you think the original Kira and Kira's Successor are using the same method of killing?" Near demanded.

"Are you daft?" She snickered. "Isn't it obvious from how the killings are being done by a heart attack?"

"Yes, but... think about it this way," he murmured, approaching her until she was backed up into a nearby desk, his hand sliding up her body until he reached underneath her shirt and pulled out the knife that she had tucked away into her waist band, something that made her smirk. "A knife has multiple ways to kill someone." He dangled the weapon from his fingers, the blade catching in the overhead light, the other agents in the room stifling a gasp at the unveiling as he continued, "However, its work can easily be mistaken for other tools."

"So, you're trying to reveal if I'm Kira's Successor by making me reveal if I know how the original Kira killed?" She shook her head, raising her hands in a lack of care gesture. "Well, not how they kill per se, but if I know that they kill the same way. That's a smart move on your part, L... but not smart enough."

Near merely shrugged, twirling the knife around in his pale fingers before eventually handing it to commander Rester who took it to dispose of it before (Y/N) could try to use it to inflict damage.

"And that was my favorite one..." she lamented, collapsing onto the nearby sofa and making Matsuda and Aizawa—the ones near the sitting area—flinch from how at ease she, who they knew was a murderer, was acting. "So..." Casting her eyes around the large space, finding that it was quite cold and intimidating as a whole, she hummed, "Why exactly do you need my help in this little investigation of yours?"

"Besides the fact that I think you are Kira-S—" Near started, only to be cut off.

"Is that short for Kira's Successor?" (Y/N) snorted, most everyone looking at her with expressions of irritation for being so rude. "Cute."

"Yes, that's right..." Near muttered before continuing. "...As I was saying, besides my suspicions of your involvement, I do believe that if you aren't Kira-S, then it wouldn't hurt to have someone whose mind is almost on par with their own to give us insight on how to apprehend them."

"And... why would I help you?"

"Well, it's either that, or your ass is going to jail," Aizawa snapped in response to her question, not going to try to put in any effort to be respectful to the likes of her.

He deemed her lower than dirt.

Someone who killed others, even if it was to avenge all those that were wronged by the victim, could never be considered good.

To take a life...

To enjoy it...

That's something I can never understand, and will never try to understand. Why Near brought this criminal in is beyond me, but I won't hesitate for a second to arrest her if she tries anything.

"I can tell that you don't like me," (Y/N) snickered, watching as Aizawa's whole form tensed, his arms that were folded taut. "I'm fine with that. I know you'll never understand me." Glancing at every single person in the room before finally landing on Near again, she hummed, "None of you will. So, I don't need your approval for what I've been doing."

"Hah..." Near let out a small, almost unheard chuckle. "See? That's exactly the kind of thought process we need."

"Excuse me?"

"Someone that's set hard on their morals... someone who believes that what they're doing is right... and someone who believes exactly what the person we're trying to catch believes in," he nodded his head to the list of criminal names that were broadcast on the large screen above them, illuminating the legos that were set around him. "You believe that criminals deserve death. Kira-S believes that as well."

"So?" (Y/N) scoffed. "Doesn't mean I know what they'll do, nor how they go about killing their victims."

"Maybe not... but I do," Near smiled. "And that's all that matters."

"L..." Gevanni trailed off, his hand dropping from his ear after having taken a phone call, his whole demeanor having shifted into one of disbelief which immediately made everyone's nerves skyrocket.

What is it, Gevanni?" Near hummed, his attention now focused on the man.

"Hah!" Edo laughed vigorously, his clawed hands resting against his stomach as his jaw of bone clacked against one another. "Looks like he lost all interest in you, (Y/N)."

She glared at him.

What does he know?

L is toying with me since he knows that I'm Kira's Successor... he just wants to get a confession out of me.

Like hell that'll happen.

"Gevanni?" Near said once more, drawing her away from her thoughts so that she could tune into the conversation.

"I just got a call from local authorities..." Gevanni shook his head. "They say that over a hundred people all died of heart attacks just now!"
