Lisa's POV:
Life lately has been... okay. It's strange to say it, but it's true. Time flies, and somehow, it's been a year already. A year since Jennie left, since I let her go, and since I buried myself in work to cope with everything.
My real estate business has grown more than I ever expected. We’ve acquired more spaces for rent, and some of the buildings still under construction are already generating interest. I didn’t think it would boom like this in just a year. It’s fulfilling in a way, seeing something I’ve worked so hard on actually paying off.
On my free days, I make it a point to catch up with Jisoo or Wendy. They keep me grounded, reminding me there’s more to life than just work. Lately, I’ve also made a new friend, Seulgi, who works as my lead engineer. She’s been a solid addition to the team.
"How's the progress on the Westside building?" I asked Seulgi as we walked through the construction site. The place was buzzing with activity, the sounds of drills and hammers filling the air.
"We’re ahead of schedule, actually,"she replied, her eyes scanning the work being done. "If we keep this up, we might be able to start leasing earlier than planned."
"That’s great to hear," I said, genuinely pleased. "I have to say, having you on the team has been a game-changer."
She smiled, a bit bashful. "Thanks, but it’s really a team effort. Everyone’s been working hard."
As Seulgi and I continued to walk through the site, the conversation naturally shifted from the technical aspects of the project to more casual topics. We've grown closer over the months, and it’s nice to have someone around who’s not just about work.
"So, what’s the plan for the next phase?" I asked as we paused near the elevator shafts.
Seulgi glanced at her notes before looking up at me with a smirk. "Well, before we get into that… I should probably let you know I’m filing for a week of leave."
I raised an eyebrow, surprised. "A week? Where are you going?""London," she said, her smirk turning into a grin.
"I’m finally meeting my LDR girlfriend in person."
I couldn’t help but laugh. "Wait, so you’re just going to drop everything here and fly across the world for a week? That’s bold, Seulgi."
She shrugged, still grinning. "It’s been a long time coming. We’ve been talking for almost a year, and it’s time we met face to face."
"Wow," I said, genuinely impressed. "How did it even work? The long-distance thing, I mean."
Seulgi leaned against a nearby wall, looking thoughtful. "It’s not easy, that’s for sure. There are times when the distance feels unbearable, but we make it work. Lots of communication, trust, and a shared goal to eventually be together. Plus, you know, a lot of late-night calls and random video chats help."
I crossed my arms, a teasing smile on my lips. "Sounds like you’ve got it all figured out. Maybe you should give me some tips."
Seulgi laughed, shaking her head. "Oh, come on, Lisa. You’re the one who’s supposed to have all the experience here. But honestly, if you’re really into someone, the distance doesn’t matter as much as you think. You just find ways to make it work."
Her words hit me harder than I expected. Maybe she was right. Maybe if things were different… but I quickly pushed that thought aside.
"Well, I hope it goes well for you," I said, genuinely meaning it. "But don’t get too comfortable in London, okay? I need you back here to keep this project on track."
