Jennie's POV:
I woke up feeling a dull, cramping pain in my stomach and realized it was going to be one of those days. Dysmenorrhea had hit hard, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to make it to work. Groaning, I curled up on the couch with a blanket and put on my favourite movie to distract myself from the discomfort.
A little while later, my phone buzzed, and a smile spread across my face as Lisa’s name appeared on the screen. We hadn’t seen each other in weeks because she was out of town meeting potential clients. Still, we kept in touch, texting and calling whenever we could. Hearing her voice was enough to make me feel a little better. After hanging up, I went back to my movie, trying to ignore the ache in my abdomen. The sound of the doorbell pulled me from my daze, and I slowly got up to answer it.
Opening the door, I saw Lisa standing there, holding two paper bags full of groceries. She looked as cool and collected as ever, and I couldn't help myself,I threw my arms around her in an unexpected hug. Lisa seemed a bit surprised at first, but she quickly set the bags down and wrapped her arms around me, kissing my forehead gently.
"How are you feeling, really?" she asked softly, looking into my eyes with genuine concern.
"I’m better now that you’re here." I replied, smiling despite the cramps.
Lisa laughed and helped me back to the couch, tucking the blanket around me like I was a burrito.
"I brought you some stuff to make you feel better," she said, heading into the kitchen. "You just relax while I work my magic."
"Are you Chef L?" I teased her, and she just smiled.
I watched her move around my kitchen, grateful for her presence.
"You know, seeing you in my kitchen is almost worth the cramps." I told her smiling.
Lisa glanced over her shoulder with a playful grin. "Almost worth it? Come on, you know you love having me here."
"Maybe." I said, pretending to think about it. "But only if you promise to cook something delicious."
"Oh, I promise."Lisa replied, mock bowing. "I will create the most amazing soup you’ve ever tasted."
"You better." I quipped, trying to keep a straight face. "Or I might have to find a new personal chef."
Lisa chuckled and began chopping vegetables, and I relaxed against the couch cushions. Her presence filled the apartment with warmth and laughter, and I felt lucky to have her around.
Watching Lisa cook was oddly comforting. She moved around my kitchen with ease, preparing everything with care. I couldn't help but smile at the sight. After a bit of fussing over me, Lisa served up a steaming bowl of soup, handed me pain relievers, and even brought over a hot compress to ease my cramps.
"Thanks for all this," I said, taking a sip of the soup.
"You’re really taking care of me."
Lisa smiled and sat down next to me on the couch, clearly pleased.
