After that night,a whirlwind of emotions kept me up. We hadn’t spoken about the past in detail yet, and part of me wasn’t ready to dive into it. But I knew we couldn’t just pretend like nothing had happened.

We couldn’t repeat the same mistakes.

Today, I went to the office. The building blessing was over, and we needed to discuss the next steps.

My work on the project was almost complete; everything had been approved, and I just needed to ensure a smooth handover. I planned to visit the site from time to time to ensure everything went as planned.

We're in the meeting, and Lisa is standing at the front, discussing the project with that natural charisma she’s always had. I can't help but feel a swell of pride watching her.

This—leading, presenting, commanding a room—this is her dream. And seeing her here, reaching it, even without me by her side all these years, fills me with so much happiness.

From time to time, she glances my way, and every time she does, my heart flutters just a bit. It’s a silent acknowledgement between us, a connection that hasn’t faded despite everything. But whenever our eyes meet, she quickly diverts her attention back to the presentation, as if she's trying to maintain her focus, trying not to get lost in whatever it is that still lingers between us.

I can't help but admire her even more in moments like this. The way she handles herself, the way she’s worked so hard to get here—it's all so impressive.

And though I’m happy for her, there’s a small part of me that wonders what it would have been like if I had been with her through it all.

After the meeting with the team, as I was gathering my things, Lisa approached me.

"Jennie, can you come to my office? We need to talk," she said, her voice steady but with a hint of something deeper.

I hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Sure."

We walked to her office in silence, the air between us thick with unspoken words.

Once inside, she closed the door behind us. I took a seat, feeling the weight of what was coming.
