Jennie's POV:
My mind went blank, a rush of emotions hitting me all at once—shock, confusion, a twinge of fear. I hadn’t prepared myself to see her, not like this, not after all these years. We’d parted ways so painfully, both of us needing to heal in our own ways. And now, here she was, standing just a few feet away from me, looking as surprised as I felt.
She didn’t seem to move for a moment, as if she was trying to process what she was seeing. My heart pounded in my chest as we locked eyes, neither of us knowing what to say. I had imagined this moment so many times in my head, rehearsed what I would say if we ever met again, but now that it was actually happening,
I was at a complete loss.
"Jennie?" she finally said, her voice soft, almost hesitant.
I swallowed hard, trying to find my own voice. "Lisa… I… I didn’t expect… I mean… Seulgi didn’t mention…"
My words trailed off, fumbling over themselves as I tried to form a coherent sentence.
She looked just as I remembered, but there was something different about her—something that had changed in the years we’d been apart. She was more polished and more confident, yet there was a hint of vulnerability in her eyes that mirrored my own.
For a few moments, we just stood there, neither of us knowing how to break the awkward silence. The air was thick with unspoken words, with memories we hadn’t yet fully put to rest."I didn’t expect to see you either," Lisa finally said, taking a cautious step closer.
"It’s been… a long time."
"Yeah," I whispered, still reeling from the shock. "Four years."
Four years of wondering what could have been, of trying to move on but never quite succeeding. And now, all those feelings were rushing back, threatening to overwhelm me.
She looked down for a moment, as if gathering her thoughts, then met my gaze again.
"I’m here for the meeting," she said, her voice more steady now. "I’m the boss Seulgi mentioned."
I blinked, processing her words.
Of course, she was the boss.
It made perfect sense now, but that didn’t make it any easier to accept. I had come here prepared to discuss business, but now I was facing something much more complicated.
"Right," I said, forcing a small, awkward smile.
"Let’s… let’s sit down."
We both took our seats, the tension between us palpable. I could barely focus on the designs I’d brought, my mind racing with questions I wasn’t sure I wanted answers to. How had she been? Did she ever think of me? Had she moved on?
But none of those questions felt appropriate to ask, not in this setting, not with the years that had passed between us.
So, instead, I took a deep breath and opened my notebook, forcing myself to focus on the task at hand.
"Let’s talk about the project," I said, my voice more firm now, trying to regain some semblance of professionalism.
But as I began to speak, I couldn’t help but wonder how this meeting would end—and if it would bring closure, or simply reopen old wounds that had never fully healed.
As I started discussing the proposal, I could feel the weight of the situation pressing down on me. I tried to maintain my composure, focusing on the designs and the details I had prepared. But it was impossible to ignore Lisa’s presence, the way her eyes occasionally lingered on me before returning to the documents spread out before us.
