"Quail eggs? Again, sweetheart?" Henry questioned, sitting across from Jane as they ate lunch together for the first time in four months since the incident with the letters to Serenity. Though Henry loved his daughters with Émilie, he did a very light punishment for Jane.
(You can probably already guess why.)
"I don't know dear," Jane answered, biting into another egg. "I've just been very fond of them lately."
"Fond?" It could only mean one thing in Henry's mind. Could she be...? "Leave us, will you Ladies?"
"Yes, Your Majesty." One by one, the Ladies made their way out of the royal chambers and closed the doors behind them, leaving Henry and Jane alone in the silence that followed.
"You've been fond of those a lot, haven't you?"
"Mhm, I have been, darling."
Smiling, Henry pointed at her stomach. "I think you're with child again, Sweet Jane..."
Jane nodded, beaming with joy. "I am, I'm already two months along and this could finally be the Duke Of York we've been waiting for."
"Or a Princess, Jane. If it's a girl, I'll be just as happy."
Of course, you will...But I want to give Edward a brother this time! "Will you though? After all, you already have four daughters, why want a fifth one when we could give Edward a brother?"
"Then we keep trying if it does, Jane. But if it's another boy, don't think about trying to pull the same lark with Scarlet as you did with Serenity. She's the Duchess Of York by blood, and it shall remain that way by all means."
"Yes, Husband..."
"Good! Also, I'd like to inform you that Serenity and Scarlet will be arriving at court next month with their fiancees: Mary Stuart and Christina Colbert. I'd like you to greet them alongside me, Mary, Elizabeth and Edward and make them feel welcomed h-"
"They're marrying women?! When?!"
"Hmm...I think Margaret said about, 3 years from now. Serenity's wedding Mary in Spring, and Scarlet plans to wed Christina in Au-"
"But it's a sin, Henry!" Jane yelled in shock, rising from her chair, her nose crinkling while my pale lips curled into a disgusted frown. "As a devoted Catholic, I find this behaviour appalling!!! How can you allow something like this, Henry?!"
Henry stared at her with a stacked jaw that nearly stretched to the floor as eyes widened at his 'Sweet innocent Jane.' displaying ghastly behaviour such as this. "Jane, this isn't appropriate behaviour for a Queen to be throwing tantrums like a mere toddler. You're almost 30 and this is how you behave like a Queen?"
"Henry-"
He put up a hand to silence her. "It isn't my choice who Serenity and Scarlet end up with. As long as they're happy with them, all their Mothers and I can do is support them the best we can."
"I see, so, where exactly do they want to marry?"
"Well, Serenity and Mary will be marrying in Scotland but they go to Greece for Serenity's coronation. As for Scarlet, she requested if she could marry Christina in the Church Of England before they went to France for her anointment."
"And what did you tell her?" Please be no, please be no, please be no!
"I've approved to let them wed there and they've extended an invitation for us and the children to come and watch the wedding, Elizabeth as a lead flower girl and Mary as their ring bear."
"You approved them to marry in the church?!" Jane looked paler than a ghost, was Henry serious?! He permitted two women to marry in the Church Of England?! "But why the Church? Surely Westminster would be just as good and as Supreme Head Of the Church, you shouldn't be authorizing this type of behaviour!"
Before Henry could reply, Jane stomped out of their lunch and back towards her chambers. How could Henry possibly allow this?! Two women shouldn't be marrying! It's a sin!
But what could she do? Henry already approved them for marriage in the Church and she couldn't do anything about it. Edward's birth was supposed to help her get rid of Serenity and Scarlet, but maybe this child can ensure they're gone for good! There's no way Henry would refuse her if she gave him two boys.
Now I just need to wait...Wait for this child to arrive and I shall finally be rid of them...
