CHAPTER 28

Nanlaki ang mga mata ko sa nalaman kong balita mula kay Ser Aeros. Dala ng pagkabigla ay dagli akong nagpumiglas upang makatayo at muling harapin siya. "What do you mean the Houndshire kingdom wants me dead?"

Ser Aeros chuckled, a deep, resonant sound that echoed through the quiet night. He tossed his head back, and his hand followed the motion, brushing through his thick, dark green hair with a casual grace that belied the power coiled beneath his lean frame.

The moonlight glinted off his chiseled features, casting shadows that danced across his sharp cheekbones and strong jawline. A slow, almost predatory smile curled at the corners of his lips. "And here I thought you'd be interested in my vows to you more than the fact that the Hounshire wanted you dead. Of course, who wouldn't be when it's your like that's at stake, isn't that right?" He replied with a sigh.

Hindi rin ako nagpatumpik at muli ko inulit ang tanong ko. "Answer me, Ser Aeros. Why does the kingdom of houndshire wanted me dead?"

Napatingin sa akin si Ser Aeros at kita ko mukha niya ang biglaang pagiging seryoso, "It's simple as you becoming a posing threat to their plan to take over Asnador. With you around marrying the duke of Kahoma, it would be impossible for them to ally with Kahoma through marriage."

Agad ako nagtaka sa sinabi ni Ser Aeros. Bakit kailangan humantong sa ganitong punto na maski buhay ko ay magiging at risk sa nobelang ito.

"Impossible." Ang tanging lumabas lamang sa bibig ko.

"Well, not unless you decided to back out from the engagement. I mean, we all know that Kahoma is the strongest province that serves as fortress of Asnador. Knowing that Duke Lorkan is the protecting it, the kingdom of Houndshire won't stand a chance should it even begin a movement of conquest against the whole Volterion empire."

Sa sinabing ito ni Ser Aeros ay agad na napakunot ang noo ko sa kaiisip kung ang lahat ba ng ito ay possibleng alam ni Princess Beatrice. And because I was careless, the words in my mind accidentally slipped out of my mouth enough for Ser Aeros to hear. "Is this the reason why the princess was here?"

"To be honest, I have no idea what the princess really wants here when she requested the king to visit Kahoma. She was already out from Houndshire when our spy learned that the incumbent King of Houndshire wanted to marry princess Beatrice to Duke Lorkan."

I shouldn't even be surprised. Princess Beatrice and Duke Lorkan were originally promised together in the original novel. Dahil sa mga plot twist, kay King Richard subalit na-inlove ang prinsesa.

However, since King Richard is now dead, of course, the best course was to really unite with the strongest province which was Kahoma through a marriage of convenience for both parties. Pero dahil nga andito akong sagabal sa kanilang plano, walang duda na ang tanging paraan lang ay ang ipapatay ako.

"If they want me dead, then should I not be threatened since I am in Kahoma. Duke Lorkan would protect me."

"Of course, you're his lovely fiance. But can he still do that when the king would soon order him to spearhead an upcoming war with Houndshire?"

"I don't understand, isn't it that Houndshire and Asnador agreed for a peace treaty long before?"

"Yes, they did." Sagot ni Ser Aeros sabay tayo sa kama upang pumunta sa may cabinet at kumuha ng damit. Habang siya ay nagbibihis ay patuloy naman siya sa pagsagot ng mga katanungan ko.

"If that's so then why would Houndshire breach that treaty to threaten Asnador?"

"Because that treaty was between Houndshire's king and Asnador's former king, Richard Asmodeus. Meaning, they don't acknowledge King Froy's succession. Although my belief was that because King Froy rejected the marriage proposal between him and Princess Beatrice." Bigla naman tawa ni Ser Aeros ng sinabi niya ito sa akin matapos niya ibutones ang kanyang suot.

Ser Aeros faced me and I felt a short struck seeing him galant in his formal general attire. His dark green hair was already brushed out and he looks lavishly formal. I wonder why he would dress like that all of a sudden.

"If you're saying that Duke Lorkan is going to lead the army, then that would mean I would be left here by myself?"

"Precisely, and since you are not yet the duke's wife, you have no authority to govern this estate like that of a duchess. You will not also get the same protection as that of a duchess. Unless Duke Lorkan would be around which is not, you are an easy prey for spies sent by Hounshire to kill you." Ser Aeros walked closer drawing his sword of its sheat as he point the tip against my throat. "You have no idea how vile the enemies are, Lady Giezelle. Even as we speak, there might be some who are already keeping a close watch on you, waiting for their opportunity to attack." Mabilis na tugon ni Ser Aeros na may halong panakot sa akin.

Mabilis na kumabog ang dibdib ko hindi dahil sa espadang nakatutok ngayon sa akin, kung hindi dahil sa posibilidad na paglabas ko sa silid niya ay maaaring may kumitil ng buhay ko. Hindi ako maaraming mamatay. Not when I haven't fulfill my mission yet.

"What shall I do now?" Buong tapang kong tanong kay Ser Aeros.

And it took a short and deafening silence before Ser Aeros draw back his sword away from me. He lured forward towards me, his other hand cupping my chin. Iniangat niya ang mukha ko upang matitigan siya ng diretso, kasabay nito ang sagot ni Ser Aeros sa akin. "I could sense a strong scent of fear within, consuming you slowly, lady Giezelle. I understand you must afraid which is very normal. But fear not, my lady, I told you that I vow to protect you even at the cost of my own life. So come with me back to Asnador. King Froy is also asking you there, and that's a royal order that I doubt you can reject." Paliwanag naman niya sabay kuha ng isang maliit na kasulatan na may dry seal ng Volterion. It was indeed a royal order, and at this point, biglang sumagi sa isipan ko papano ko ipapaliwanag ito ay Duke Lorkan dahil nakakasigurado ako hindi agad siya papayag na umalis ako sa Kahoma.

Kinuha ko ang telegrama mula kay Ser Aeros sabay tugon na, "I'll think about this first. Promise me you won't tell anyone that I came here to talk toyou regarding about this, as well as the fact that Houndshire wants me dead. I don't want to create chaos especially while the princess is here."

"Having some soft spot towards your enemy?" saad naman ni Ser Aeros na tila nangangantyaw sa akin.

This made me turn my head beyond my shoulder, "Until she's proven guilty, the princess is not my enemy and she will remain a honorable guest of Kahoma that we should treat with high respect. I hope you are not planning to do anything reckless, Ser Aeros."

At inasar lang ako ni Ser Aeros nang mabilis lang niya akong kinindatan sabay ng pag-upo niya sa paanan ng kanyang kama. The scene got me all awkward that I had to quickly leave and shut the door behind quickly as I head out.
