THE WHITE DRAGON CHAPTER 16 : A NAMEDAY

A FANFICTION ON HBO'S HOUSE OF THE DRAGON

VAEMOND VELARYON

Vaemond had never held any desire for power. Even as a child he was content just fighting at his brother's side and defending the proud and ancient name of Velaryon. However that seems to change each day that Corlys listens to the war advice of Prince Daemon, rather than listening to .

However it seems that Corlys could pick up on Vaemond's anger and Ire and spends most nights eating together with Vaemond, trying to mend the strained relationship between them.

Corlys raises his spoon, glancing at the stew, if that's what it could be called watching it plop back into the bowl "I recall father's stories on enjoying his dinners on the high seas more than mother's meals at Driftmark. Looking back I believe that Mother might have been a horrendous cook."

Vaemond says nothing and Corlys forces himself to drink the broth and chuckles softly "Do you recall when Father took us all hunting and mother shot an arrow at father for...."

"For insulting her hunting capabilities. I recall. I was there, even if you don't want to remember that." Vaemond says biting on some broth soaked bread, grimacing at the taste. Corlys clears his throat and smiles "Of course you remember. My little brother, remembering every small detail."

"Yes like you saying we would return to Driftmark within a year." Vaemond says bitterly and Corlys sighs "Did you think our conflict would end so soon. Are you not enjoying yourself. You miss your feathered pillows or your full course meals? Perhaps you should just return to Driftmark then, if you cannot stomach the war."

"And be labeled a traitor to my brother or craven by the soldiers? I who sailed as your first mate through all nine of your voyages and said not one complaint. I who stood by your side at the great council in support of your wife's claim to the Iron Throne. No what I cannot stomach your pride or your stubbornness. Yours nor Daemon's. Aerys has been residing on the Grey Gallows for nine months now and you still have not sent anyone to strike and accord with him." Vaemond says angrily through his teeth.

"I will not be show up by some green boy who knows nothing of war." Corlys says and Vaemond scoffs and shakes his head "You wont or Daemon wont. Besides Prince Aerys must know something, for he has defeated his enemies and has won his war effort."

"Then he should come to us." Corlys says stubbornly and Vaemond squints his eyes "Brother you know better than most that we need Prince Aerys and his army more than he needs us. We should only be so lucky that Aerys has not sailed back to Westeros. If you cannot trust a guard or a squire to send terms, then send me brother."

"No I need you here supporting me and house Velaryon." Corlys says taking a swig of the ale and Vaemond leans closer "When have I ever failed you or House Velaryon brother. Have I not always had our house's best interest at heart."

"Daemon will be furious that you are going behind his back." Corlys warns and Vaemond scoffs shaking his head "When last I looked, I served Lord Corlys not Prince Daemon, I have done so since you gave mother the bow and I the arrows that shot father in the arse."

Corlys sighs and chuckles and shakes his head "Then I consent. Bring our terms to Prince Aerys. I wish you well in this task." Corlys brings his brother's head towards his own, and rests their foreheads together "Ao issi hen lopor se embar lēkia. Nyke jaelagon ao sȳrī isse aōha conatus."  "You are of salt and sea brother. I wish you well in your endeavors."
