THE WHITE DRAGON CHAPTER 29 : THE UNION OF THE DRAGONS
A FANFICTION ON HBO'S HOUSE OF THE DRAGON
AERYS TARGARYEN
"The wedding alone has cost nearly double Prince Aerys and Lady Alicent's did." Lord Gabriel says his white beard braided with green and gold beads inlayed within the wisps and Lord Bain Ironfist lord of King's Grove since his father Balin passed one year prior nods "Not to mention the fact that the groom has not been seen for almost a week. Have you sent men to find him my prince. The royal family are due in a week's time. The high Septon of the Starry Sept has also arrived at the King's invitation to officiate the wedding."
"Jaehaerys has not wandered far I assure you my lord. Perhaps he's having his last few nights as a free man drinking in taverns." Alicent says with a tired smile and Lord Gabriel sighs "Be that as it may be my lady it doesn't change the fact that Jaehaerys has skipped most of his lessons regarding the wedding and the last thing we would want is to make the King think we are insulting him."
"He insults Prince Aerys enough by extending an invitation to Princess Rhaenyra and her... husband on Dragonstone. The ceremony should be to celebrate the future lord and princess of Dragons Maw, not the princess and her uncle's disgusting familial relationship." Lord Bain says firmly with a disgusted sneer and Aerys tilts his head "I'm sure you have your opinions on the matter Lord Bain, and as much as I agree with your statement I cannot have you saying such things so loudly. Those are words that can spark conflict. I suggest you wash out your mouth."
"Forgive me my Lord, and you needn't worry. I'll wash my mouth out with ale during the wedding feast." Aerys nods and his council makes their way out from the room leaving Aerys and Alicent alone. Aerys watches as his wife walks towards him and runs a hand down his cheek "Do you think Rhaenyra will show at the wedding?" Aerys takes her hand in his own and places a kiss on the back of it enjoying the familiar scent of her vanilla creams and ointments "She is brazen but I wouldn't expect it. For three years numerous invitations from Viserys have been sent inviting her and Daemon to the Capital, yet no raven ever flew back to Kings Landing except excuses and apologies. I doubt she would find time to come to a wedding for a family that despises her and a sister she hardly knows."
"Good. I want Jaehaerys and Helaena to have the focus solely on them. No bride nor groom should be outshone on their wedding day." Alicent says and Aerys smiles "Don't think I didn't see the dark look that fell on your face when Lord Gabriel said their wedding will be more expensive than ours was. Even if Jaehaerys is your favorite child you felt a twinge of envy." Alicent chuckles at that and smacks his shoulder "Don't say such things. I may not like our son being forced to marry but there are worse than Helaena Targaryen, and what is this with having a favorite child. I don't have a favorite child." Aerys chuckles at that and raises an eye "That is astounding that you believe that. Every parent has a favorite." Alicent now raises an eye and asks "Do you?" Aerys scoffs and nods "Of course. Again any sane parent would." Alicent takes a seat on Aerys left, her hand still kept in his while she scoffs "Right then, who's your favorite?"
"Aerea" Aerys says without hesitation and Alicent gasps "You said that alarmingly quick." Alicent then chuckles and Aerys finds himself smiling and strokes the back of Alicent's hand tenderly. The happy silence is then broken as Ser Rymun rushes in "My Lady, My Prince. We've found Jaehaerys."
"Is he hurt?" Alicent asks with a rigid posture pulling her hand away from Aerys' and Rymun shakes his head making Aerys scoff "Then speak up Rymun. I'm sure there is little worse than him being hurt."
