The first few days at Tomioka Industries had been a whirlwind of activity, and Y/N had thrown herself into the work, determined to prove her worth. Giyuu Tomioka, with his enigmatic demeanour and demanding expectations, was a constant presence in her thoughts, and she found herself spending long hours at the office, often working late into the night.
It was during one of these late-night work sessions that Y/N stumbled upon something she couldn't quite explain.
The office was eerily quiet, the usual hustle and bustle of the day replaced by the soft hum of air conditioning and the occasional creak of the building settling. The moonlight filtered through the large windows, casting long shadows across the floor as Y/N sat at her desk, diligently organising files for the next day's meetings.
She had lost track of time, her mind focused on the task at hand, when she heard the faint sound of voices coming from down the hall. Y/N paused, her pen hovering above the notepad she had been writing on. The voices were low, almost inaudible, but there was something in the tone that caught her attention—an urgency, a seriousness that made her instincts tingle.
Curiosity piqued, Y/N quietly stood from her desk and moved toward the door of her office. She hesitated for a moment, her hand resting on the doorknob, before slowly pushing the door open just enough to peer out into the hallway. The corridor was dimly lit, the only illumination coming from the lights above the emergency exits, casting an ominous glow over the space.
The voices were clearer now, and Y/N realized they were coming from Giyuu's office, just a few doors down. She couldn't make out the words, but the tone was unmistakable—this was no ordinary business discussion.
Her heart pounded in her chest as she crept closer to the source of the voices, her footsteps light and careful against the polished floor. The door to Giyuu's office was slightly ajar, and Y/N could just make out the silhouette of two figures inside—Giyuu and another man, who appeared to be someone of importance, judging by his authoritative posture.
Y/N knew she shouldn't be eavesdropping, but something compelled her to listen, a nagging feeling in the pit of her stomach that she couldn't ignore.
"You're certain the delivery routes are secure?" Giyuu's voice was calm, but there was an underlying tension that Y/N had never heard before.
"Absolutely," the other man replied, his voice gruff and confident. "We've taken every precaution. The package will be moved discreetly—no one will suspect a thing."
Giyuu was silent for a moment, and Y/N could almost feel the weight of his contemplation. "Good. This operation needs to go off without a hitch. There's too much at stake."
The man nodded. "I understand. Everything is in place. We've coordinated with our contacts overseas to ensure smooth transitions. The package will be delivered as scheduled."
Y/N's brow furrowed in confusion. Delivery routes? The package? It sounded like typical business jargon, but there was something about the way they spoke, the gravity of their words, that didn't sit right with her. She had heard enough corporate lingo in her career to know that this wasn't just about logistics or product delivery.
A part of her wanted to brush it off, to convince herself that it was nothing more than standard business talk. But the uneasy feeling in her gut wouldn't let her dismiss it so easily. The intensity in Giyuu's voice, the clandestine nature of the conversation—it all felt too deliberate, too secretive.
Y/N's mind raced as she continued to listen, her pulse quickening with each passing second. She strained to hear more, but the conversation grew quieter, as if they were moving further into the office. She knew she couldn't risk being caught, so she reluctantly stepped back from the door and returned to her own office, her thoughts spinning with questions.
Back at her desk, Y/N tried to shake off the unease that had settled over her. She reminded herself that she was new here, that she didn't fully understand the inner workings of Tomioka Industries yet. It was entirely possible that she was reading too much into things, letting her imagination get the better of her.
But even as she attempted to rationalize her feelings, the conversation replayed in her mind, the cryptic references to "delivery routes" and "the package" gnawing at her curiosity. What could they possibly be talking about that required such secrecy, especially this late at night?
Y/N pushed the thoughts aside and focused on finishing her work, but the unease lingered like a shadow in the back of her mind. She knew that the smart thing to do was to keep her head down, to not get involved in matters that didn't concern her. But the more she tried to ignore it, the more her curiosity grew.
Maybe it's nothing, she told herself, trying to convince herself that she was overthinking. Perhaps it's just a big client or a sensitive business deal. It doesn't have to be anything suspicious.
But deep down, she knew that wasn't true. There was something more going on here, something beneath the surface of Tomioka Industries that she had yet to uncover.
The next morning, Y/N arrived at the office with a renewed sense of determination. She had made up her mind to keep her distance from whatever was going on, to focus solely on her work and prove herself as a valuable asset to the company. After all, she had worked too hard to get this position—she couldn't afford to get caught up in anything that might jeopardize her job.
Giyuu was already in his office when she arrived, and she could sense the same air of intensity about him that she had noticed the night before. He greeted her with his usual curt nod, and they quickly fell into the rhythm of the day's tasks. Meetings were scheduled, reports were reviewed, and the steady flow of work kept Y/N's mind occupied.
But even as she focused on her responsibilities, she couldn't completely shake the feeling that something was amiss. Every time Giyuu's phone rang, or he received an email marked as "Confidential," her thoughts drifted back to the conversation she had overheard. She found herself watching him more closely, trying to read his expressions, to gauge if there was any hint of the tension she had sensed the night before.
Giyuu, however, remained as composed and inscrutable as ever. His cold, professional demeanour never wavered, and if he was concerned about anything, he didn't show it. Y/N admired his ability to remain so calm under pressure, but it also made her question just how much he was hiding beneath that stoic exterior.
As the day wore on, Y/N tried to push her doubts aside, focusing instead on the tasks in front of her. She reminded herself that she was here to do a job, not to pry into matters that didn't concern her.
But despite her best efforts, she couldn't shake the feeling that she had stumbled upon something significant, something that might explain the strange undercurrent of secrecy that seemed to permeate Tomioka Industries.
That night, as she lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling, Y/N's thoughts kept returning to the conversation she had overheard. There was something about it that she couldn't ignore, something that made her feel like she was on the brink of discovering a hidden truth.
What exactly is going on here? She wondered, her mind racing with possibilities. And how deep does it go?
The more she thought about it, the more she realized that she couldn't just let it go. She needed to know what was really happening at Tomioka Industries, even if it meant risking her own position.
I'll keep my eyes and ears open, she decided, a steely resolve settling in her chest. If there's something more going on, I'll find out.
But even as she made that decision, a part of her couldn't help but feel a twinge of fear. She was venturing into unknown territory, and she had no idea what she might uncover—or what the consequences might be.
