The soft hum of the office air conditioning filled the hall as Y/N made her way toward Giyuu's office. Her thoughts were a mess, tangled up with feelings she couldn't quite make sense of. Over the past few weeks, she had begun to realise something unsettling—she was falling for Giyuu. It was wrong, or at least it felt that way to her. He was her boss, someone who lived in a world she wasn't supposed to be part of. He ran a dangerous organisation, and she knew better than to get caught up in something like this. Yet, her heart seemed to be betraying her every logical thought.

She had been avoiding her feelings, convincing herself that she could push them away, that it was just a temporary attraction. But no matter how much she tried, her mind always drifted back to him—his quiet protectiveness, his intensity, the way he looked at her when he thought she wasn't watching.

As she approached his office, Y/N took a deep breath, hoping to steady herself. She was about to knock on the door when she heard a soft, feminine laugh from inside. Her hand froze mid-air. Curious and uneasy, she shifted slightly, peeking through the small gap in the doorway. What she saw made her heart stop.

There, sitting on Giyuu's lap, was a woman she had never seen before. She was stunning—her long, wavy hair cascaded over her shoulders like silk, a rich shade of dark brown with hints of auburn that glimmered in the light. Her flawless skin had a soft glow, and her sharp, almond-shaped eyes were a piercing blue, a colour so vivid it felt almost unnatural. She wore a sleek, fitted black dress that clung to her perfect figure, her lips painted a deep red that matched the air of confidence she exuded. One hand was draped possessively around Giyuu's neck, while the other rested on his chest, her body pressed closely against his.

Y/N's breath caught in her throat, and her chest tightened painfully. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. Was this the kind of woman Giyuu was interested in? Elegant, confident, and clearly someone who knew him intimately. The sight sent a wave of nausea through her, and she felt her heart shatter into pieces.

She had never seen Giyuu like this before. In all the time they had spent together, he had been distant, emotionally reserved. Yet here he was, allowing this woman—this beautiful, flawless woman—to sit on his lap like they belonged together. Y/N had been foolish, so foolish to think there could be anything between her and Giyuu. She was just his secretary, someone he protected out of responsibility, nothing more.

Without thinking, Y/N turned and left, her footsteps light but hurried. The pain in her chest grew with each step, and she felt the burn of unshed tears in her eyes. She couldn't stay, couldn't face whatever this was. She didn't want to be there when they inevitably kissed or when she heard the sound of affection in Giyuu's voice—something he had never shown her.

Behind her, inside the office, Giyuu's attention snapped to the soft sound of footsteps retreating down the hall. He frowned, instantly recognizing who it was. Y/N. It had to be her. She always came to his office around this time. He felt a sinking feeling in his chest, realizing that she must have seen him with his ex.

The woman on his lap, Misaki, had shown up out of nowhere, pushing her way into his office with a flirtatious smile and bold determination. He had been caught off guard, especially when she brazenly took a seat on his lap, trying to rekindle something that had ended long ago.

Misaki had been his girlfriend once—before the betrayal, before she had cheated on him. She had left him with nothing but mistrust and a heart hardened against the idea of love. Now, she was trying to worm her way back into his life, acting like nothing had happened.

"Get off me, Misaki," Giyuu said coldly, pushing her off his lap and standing abruptly. His eyes were hard, his voice laced with irritation.

Misaki pouted, standing up with a graceful flip of her hair. "Oh, come on, Giyuu. You know we had something good. Why can't we just put the past behind us?"

"Because you betrayed me," he said bluntly, his eyes narrowing. "I don't want anything to do with you."

Misaki's expression shifted, annoyance flashing in her eyes. "You're still holding onto that? I made a mistake. We can move past it."

"No," Giyuu said firmly, stepping away from her. He picked up his phone, quickly dialling security. "Don't ever come back here. I'm making sure you're never allowed into this building again."

Misaki scoffed, crossing her arms. "Fine. But don't think you can stay cold forever, Giyuu. Someone's going to break through that icy wall of yours one day. And when they do, don't come running back to me."

She turned on her heel and walked out, her heels clicking sharply against the floor. Giyuu didn't watch her go. His thoughts were already elsewhere—on Y/N.

He rushed out of his office, his mind racing. He knew she had misunderstood what she had seen, and the thought of her being hurt because of it gnawed at him. He couldn't let her walk away thinking he had been with Misaki. He had to explain.

But when he reached the end of the hall, his steps faltered. There, just outside the building, he saw Y/N standing with Haruto. She was talking to him, her expression tight with emotion, her arms crossed as if she were trying to hold herself together.

Giyuu's chest tightened as he watched the scene unfold. Haruto said something, his face soft with concern. Y/N hesitated, her eyes distant and pained, before finally nodding.

"I'd love to go out with you," she said quietly, her voice tinged with a sadness that Giyuu could hear even from a distance.

His heart sank.

Y/N's words echoed in his mind, and Giyuu felt a pang of something he couldn't quite name. Jealousy? Frustration? He wasn't sure. But whatever it was, it cut deeper than he had expected.

He wanted to rush over, to stop her, to tell her that she had misunderstood. But he couldn't. Not like this. He had no right to interfere, not when he hadn't even been honest with himself about his own feelings for her. Y/N had always been more than just his secretary, more than just someone he needed to protect. She had become important to him—more important than he had ever allowed himself to admit.

But now, she was slipping away. And it was his fault.

Giyuu clenched his fists at his sides, standing frozen as he watched Haruto and Y/N walk away together, disappearing into the night. His mind raced, the weight of the moment crashing down on him. He had to fix this. He had to find a way to make things right. But for now, all he could do was watch her go, the hollow ache in his chest a painful reminder of what he had lost.
