"Dad-dy! Dad-dy!" Delphine says through the monitor, making groan, getting himself out of bed and walking down to her room, opening the door to find her sitting on her bed with her blanket on her lap and a grin on her face as she sees him. "Dad-dy!"
"Del-phine!" he replies, breaking the word into two just as she does.
She giggles, getting up and walking over, her arms raised in the air.
"Hi princess," he whispers, checking in on Willa to see her still sleeping before changing Delphine's diaper in the living room.
"Mo-mo?" she asks, pointing at the tv while he finishes up her diaper.
"Elmo?"
"Mo-mo."
"Yeah, princess, I'll turn on Elmo," he says, standing her up and grabbing the tv remote, turning on Sesame Street before throwing the diaper away and washing his hands.
"Mo-mo! Daddy Mo-mo!" she says, looking over at him, squealing excitedly and watching.
"Elmo!" he exclaims, grinning as he moves into the kitchen, grabbing an oatmeal packet out of the pantry and starting to make it for Delphine.
"Daddy!" Willa yells, followed by cries.
Joe's brows furrow immediately, setting down Delphine's bowl from stirring the now cooked oatmeal and rushing into Willa's room.
"What's wrong?" he asks, seeing tears streaming down her face.
"Mama heart!" she cries, raising her arms to him so he can pick her up.
"What princess?" he asks, his brows furrowing further as he does.
"Mama heart!" she cries.
"Willa," he sighs, knowing what happened as he sees it on the floor, wedged between the bed and the wall. "Princess, it's right here," he says, walking over and grabbing it before standing up as she lifts her head off his shoulder, sniffling.
"Mama heart!" she exclaims, grabbing it and hugging it tight.
"Oh, there we go," he says. "I'm sure mama needed that really tight hug this morning."
"Yeah," Willa nods.
"Yeah. Hey, sissy's watching Elmo and Abby, do you want to watch with her while I make breakfast?"
"Yeah," she nods.
"Okay," he replies, taking her to the living room with him.
"No oatmeal," she says, shaking her head.
"What princess?" he asks, confused.
She points to Delphine's bowl on the counter. "I do not want oatmeal."
"No, princess, that's sissy's. I know you don't want oatmeal. What do you want?"
"Not oatmeal."
"I understand that, Willa, what do you want?"
"I don't know."
"Willa," he says. "If you don't tell me what you want, I'm going to make you something and that's what you'll have."
She pauses, tapping her finger on her chin. "Umm, yogurt."
"You want yogurt and fruit?"
"Just strawberries," she says.
"Okay, princess," he says, kissing her cheek and setting her down so she can run to Delphine, unicorn under her arm and "mama heart" in her hand while he enters the kitchen again, stirring the oatmeal to help it cool and grabbing the yogurt and strawberries out of the fridge.
