Chapter 30: Detention

'Seriously? A week worth of detention?' Elizabeth asked with widened eyes.
Narcissa sighed as she slowly nodded as a reply.
'That's nuts, you didn't do it! Or did you?' Elizabeth asked, narrowing her eyes at her best friend.
'Of course I didn't do it! Why would I want to destroy books. And don't you think if I would want to do something like that I'd be a little smarter when it came down to hiding the fact I did it?' Narcissa asked as she pointed down at her ink-splattered clothes.
'Good point. Did you tell McGonagall that?' Isobelle asked. 'It's a solid theory.'
'No I didn't get the chance between the disappointing glances she shot me.'
'Why didn't you just tell her it was Parkinson and O'Neill?' Elizabeth asked.
'I don't have proof they did it.' Narcissa shrugged, pulling off her clothes and chucking them on the ground near her bed and wrapping her cloak around her.
'I still don't get why you didn't tell her.' Elizabeth stated.
'Are you trying to protect them?' Isobelle asked.
'Of course not!' Narcissa exclaimed.
'Just merely wondering.' Isobelle shrugged, sitting back against her pillow on her own bed.

'What about James? How did you get him to not tell on them?' Elizabeth asked.
'I just told him what I thought and he somewhat agreed, although I don't think he'd wanted to bring anything into the "conversation". McGonagall wasn't very pleased with the news.' Narcissa said.
'I can understand why.' Isobelle muttered.
'I've got to contact George and Fred though, Parkinson and O'Neill had the inkbombs they had created but weren't planning on selling in the shops. I have no idea how they got them.' Narcissa said, pulling her bathrobe on before gathering her toiletries, pyjamas and towel.
'It's rather strange, all of this I mean, isn't it?' Elizabeth sighed. 'Why would they do something like that.'
Narcissa shrugged. 'They're pure evil.' Isobelle answered. 'That's why they're doing this, they're working for the devil.'
'I'm sure they are.' Narcissa chuckled as she made her way over to the door of their shared room. 'I'm going to try to get this ink off my skin and hair with that potion, just don't do anything stupid.'
Elizabeth and Isobelle laughed. 'We can't promise you that and you know it.' Isobelle smirked.

Narcissa sighed as she stared out in front of her the next afternoon in the Great Hall. She with five others were the only ones there, making it peaceful and quiet to work on homework. She normally would make her homework either in the library or the Ravenclaw common room, but she was banned from the library and the common room was a bit too crowded for her. She closed her eyes, trying to get her concentration back, but her mind kept wandering off. How could someone do something like Parkinson and O'Neill did the day before? How could someone purposely let someone else get the blame for what they did? And why James and her? Obviously they didn't like her from the beginning, at least Parkinson didn't seem to be very happy with her presence, but what did she do to deserve such a treatment?
'Hey daydreamer.'
Narcissa opened her eyes, only to see James sitting down next to her.
'Needed an escape from reality?' he asked.
Narcissa sighed. 'You could call it that.'
'So you're not excited about the detention?' James asked.
'What do you think?'
James gave her a small smile and nodded.
'You didn't want to tell McGonagall what really happened, otherwise it would be them having to clean the library for a whole week and not us.'
'I know, it's too late now and we still wouldn't have had any proof.'
'So you opted to lie to the headmistress.' James stated.
'You didn't seem to be very willing to go against anything McGonagall said yourself.' Narcissa shot back. 'Either way, we didn't lie. We didn't even get the chance to say anything, which is understandable.'
James rolled his eyes. 'You and your obsession with books.'
'Oh shut up you.'
'There you are!'
Both Narcissa and James turned around at the screech, which apparently had belonged to Roxanne.
'Hey.' Narcissa and James said in unison.
'Shoo you, I've got to talk to Narcissa.'
James frowned at his cousin. 'And I can't stay here because?'
'Because it's girl stuff. So get off that lazy arse of yours before I kick you off.' Roxanne said, showing off her "ninja" skills. James rolled his eyes as he got up. 'I'll see you in an hour.' James said before walking off and disappearing out of sight. Roxanne quickly took his seat and turned to look at Narcissa.
'So, what did you need me for?' Narcissa asked.
'First of all, Potter and you?'
'What about James and me?'
'Are you a thing?' Roxanne asked.
'What! No way, not in a million years.' Narcissa laughed. 'We're just both stuck in detention because of that ink bomb incident you surely heard about, which was by the way not our fault.' Narcissa quickly defended.
'I never took you for someone to throw an ink bomb near books in the first place, or anywhere else for that matter, so if you didn't do it, why are you in trouble?'
'We don't have proof we didn't do it.'
'Well firstly, your word.' Roxanne shrugged. 'McGonagall always listens and she can tell when someone's lying, she's had years of practice.'
Narcissa sighed. 'It's definitely too late for that now.'
Roxanne shook her head. 'No, just go to her and tell her what really happened. You shouldn't be punished for something you didn't do.'
Narcissa slowly nodded. 'I'll think about it, now what is it you wanted to talk to me about?'
'You remember Matthew, right?'
'Yes, a handsome guy you've got a huge crush on.' Narcissa grinned.
Roxanne shoved her arm as she rolled her eyes. 'Oh shut it you. Yes that guy. You're never going to believe what just happened!'
'What happened?'
'He asked me out!' Roxanne smiled broadly.
'No way! That's amazing! I'm so happy for you Rox.'
'Well, I've got to thank you for that, now don't I?' Roxanne asked.
Narcissa raised her eyebrows at her and shook her head. 'I'm sorry, I don't understand?'
'I know you did talk to him that day, you're a bad liar Malfoy.' Roxanne winked. 'So thank you for that.'
Narcissa gave her a small smile and nodded. 'No problem at all, I played cupid with pleasure.'
'That's good to know.' Roxanne laughed. 'Now first things first. You're going to talk to McGonagall about what really happened.'
'I'll first talk to James about it.'
Roxanne raised her eyebrows.
'It doesn't just concern me, it also concerns him. So he'll have to agree and otherwise it's a library banned life for me.'
'Oh don't be so melodramatic. You need those books for research for your homework, they can't ban you forever.'
'I hope you're right. You've been here longer than I am.'
'And never in those four years has someone dropped an ink bomb in the library.'
'Of your father and uncle's creation.'
'Who else.' Roxanne sighed, before giving Narcissa a wink and getting up.
'I'm going to tell Hope and Holly the news, I'll see you tomorrow and good luck with McGonagall.' Roxanne said.
'Thanks, have fun telling them?'
Roxanne laughed. 'Thanks.' she grinned before exiting the Great Hall and leaving Narcissa by herself again.

Narcissa sighed as you took another ink-splattered book out of the bookshelf. They had been cleaning books for over thirty minutes by now and they were still not done. The ink was hard to get off, but Elizabeth had helped to make the potion they needed to get the ink to disappear.
'James?' Narcissa called.
James looked up from the book he was cleaning and raised his eyebrows. 'Yes?'
'Roxanne said we'd better go back to McGonagall.' Narcissa said.
'What?'
'She said we should tell her what really happened.'
'Don't you think it'd be slightly odd we're coming back to her now, after our first night of detention? We should've told her the truth in the first place.' James said.
Narcissa sighed as she slowly nodded her head. 'I know we should've and I'm sorry from keeping you doing the right thing.'
'Don't worry about it.' James shrugged. 'We'll go see her after our detention.'
One and an half hour later they were finally free to go. They still hadn't been able to free all the books from the ink, but at least they had made a start. They headed straight to McGonagall's office and within 10 minutes they were seated in the seats opposite her.

'So what has brought the two of you back to my office?' she asked, looking from James to Narcissa and back to James.
'We wanted to talk about what happened yesterday.' James said.
McGonagall raised her eyebrows as she nodded, indicating for him to go on.
'The inkbomb wasn't ours. We were at the wrong place at the wrong time.' Narcissa sighed, biting down on her lip.
'Okay, and who was behind the inkbomb according to you?' McGonagall asked.
'Zoë Parkinson and Sophie O'Neill.' James said.
'And what made you decide not to tell me this in the first place?'
'Do you believe us?' Narcissa asked.
'Yes, Sir Nicholas had just been floating around the library when he heard some commotion, he went to take a look and saw Miss Parkinson and O'Neill hurrying up to one of the bookshelves and throwing something in the aisle. Next thing the bomb went off.' McGonagall said. 'So now my question, why didn't you tell me sooner?'
'We didn't have proof or witnesses, which wasn't the case apparently.' Narcissa sighed.
'But professor McGonagall, if you knew we didn't do it, why'd you give us detention?' James asked.
McGonagall softly chuckled. 'To teach the two of you a lesson. This way you'll know that next time when something happens, it's always best to tell the truth.'
Narcissa gave her a small smile and nodded. 'We will.'
'That's good to know. You two are off detention, someone else should be cleaning the ink of all the books.' McGonagall said. 'It's late, go to bed and get some sleep. You're dismissed.'
Narcissa and James nodded and got up. They were halfway to the door when Narcissa stopped and turned around. 'Oh professor McGonagall, about that ink-' she started, but was interrupted by James's elbow nudging her side.
'What about it?'
'It was a rude prank.' James finished.
McGonagall raised her eyebrows before slowly nodding and waving them away. James took Narcissa's arm and pulled her after him out of the headmistress's office.
'Let Parkinson and O'Neill struggle with that ink for a bit. We shouldn't give them the solution to the end of their detention.' James winked, making a small smile appear on Narcissa's face.

A/N:

Hi there!

I know it's been ages since the last update! But because of all the studying and exams I had to do I literally had no time until last night to write a new chapter for this story. I hope it's any good and you enjoyed it, because it was hard to write when your brain is constantly yelling "Sleep! You need to sleep!" but I managed.... I hope hahah

Okay let's see I'm rather stuck with this story, I've got a few things I want to happen, but I'm not sure how I'm going to do that yet, so I hope some inspiration hits me somewhere along the week.

Now the question of the week: What are your plans for summer break?
My answer: Nothing much, read the books I still want to read, watch some movies, find some new TV shows to watch (as for the fact I'm up to date with everything I've been watching and don't have anything to watch anymore) I tried American Horror Story a few days ago, the first episode, I just wanted to check it out, I figured it can't be that scary.... right?but I've never been one for horror, so I'm not going to watch anymore of that hahah one episode was enough. Uhm meet up with friends, go on a trip and that's about it. Just trying to relax and empty my head in some way :)

So yeah that's about it for this week, I hope I'll be able to get some inspiration and finish a new chapter before next week Saturday :) I'll do my very best!

Lots of love
