Chapter 37: Parkinson

'Would you look at that.'
Narcissa sighed, recognizing the voice. She was not up for what was to come.
'Good morning Parkinson.' Narcissa smiled, turning to face the girl.
Zoë looked Narcissa up and down with a smirk on her face. 'Can I help you with something?' Narcissa asked.
'I heard there's trouble in paradise.' Zoë smirked.
'I don't know what you've heard, but I'm sure it's gossip, as it always is.'
Zoë shook her head. 'Oh no, I've seen it with my own eyes. You and James Potter don't even want to look at each other. What happened over summer break? Did he rip the heads off your dolls?'
'I don't know what you're talking about.' Narcissa said, digging her nails into the palms of her hands, trying to retrain herself from doing something stupid.
'I'm sure you don't.' Zoë laughed. 'Had a little fling then?'
'Parkinson, can't you just keep your nose out of other people's lives?'
'Oh darling, that makes life so boring.'
'What did I ever do to you to deserve such a treatment from you?' Narcissa asked.
Zoë seemed to freeze to the spot, staring straight into Narcissa's eyes, only to recover a moment later and start to laugh. 'You're funny Malfoy, very funny.'
'You know, you don't have to act like this Zoë.' Narcissa sighed, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. 'I'm sure you're a lovely person who's trying to protect herself from getting hurt. I don't know the details of what happened in the past between your mother and my parents, but what happened then doesn't mean we couldn't just get along. We are not our parents.'
Zoë stared at Narcissa before shaking her head. 'You're absolutely mad.' she muttered before turning around and walking away again. Narcissa shrugged and continued her way to the Ravenclaw common room. She had no idea what was up with Zoë Parkinson and why she had to act the way she acted. Had she been bullied before she came to Hogwarts? Did she have a tough upbringing? Or did she really have an awful personality? She walked up the stairs towards the Ravenclaw Tower before entering the common room where Isobelle was seated near the fire place.
'Hey.' Narcissa said, sitting down on the empty armchair.
'Hey, that took you long.' Isobelle said, looking up from her book.
'Parkinson held me up.'

'What did she do this time?'
'Oh nothing.'
Isobelle raised her eyebrows, not believing Zoë would stop Narcissa and not say or do anything. Elizabeth walked up to them, having come from their room because she had to grab her book.

'I was wondering, her last name is Parkinson. But her mother's name is Parkinson, how is it she doesn't have her father's name?' Narcissa asked.
'I don't think the devil has a surname, so they had to go with her mother's name?' Isobelle shrugged.
'I heard her mother got knocked up and her father didn't want to have anything to do with it, so he ran off before Zoë was even born.' Elizabeth said as she sat down next to her.
'That's horrible.' Narcissa said.
'I don't pity her, she's a terrible human being.' Isobelle said.
'Perhaps it's just a defence mechanism?' Narcissa suggested.
Isobelle and Elizabeth shared a look before they started laughing. 'Perhaps it just runs through her blood.'

'Did you know her mother has been in prison?' Isobelle asked.
'What?' Elizabeth asked wide eyed.
'Yes, dad told me a while back.' Isobelle said.
'What was she in prison for?' Elizabeth asked.
'Kidnapping my mother.' Narcissa answered.
Elizabeth turned to Narcissa and shook her head. 'No way!'
Narcissa nodded.
'But why?'
'I'm not completely sure. It had something to do with my father's uncle.'
'Apparently Zoë's mother had a massive crush on Narcissa's dad back in the day.' Isobelle said.
'Eew, what if your dad is her dad.' Elizabeth gasped.
'My dad would never cheat on my mother.' Narcissa told her.
'Who could her father be then?'
'I don't really care.' Narcissa shrugged.

'How did she get out of prison?' Elizabeth asked.
'I thought it was good behaviour? She had been sitting for a few years by then.' Isobelle said.
'Wow.'
'What are we talking about?' Christopher asked, walking up to the three girls and sitting down on the armrest of Narcissa's chair.
'Oh nothing.' Narcissa said before Isobelle or Elizabeth could answer.
Christopher raised his eyebrows, but chose to drop it. 'So this weekend is Hogsmeade weekend.'
'I know.' Narcissa nodded, looking up at him.
'You can still get out of this date.' Christopher joked.
'Well, if you want me to get up with some kind of excuse, you just have to say so.' Narcissa said, softly elbowing his side.
Christopher laughed. 'Obviously not.'
'That's good to know.'
'You two are so cute.' Elizabeth remarked from her seat on the couch next to Isobelle.
Narcissa's cheeks turned a light red shade, but Christopher wasn't so easily embarrassed. 'Oh we know.' Christopher grinned.

Zoë walked into the Slytherin common room where Sophie was seated in front of the fireplace. Sophie looked up from the gossip section in the Daily Prophet and raised her eyebrows at her friend. 'You seem paler than usual.' Sophie remarked.
Zoë huffed, sitting down on the free armchair near the fire. 'Something happened?' Sophie asked, closing the Daily Prophet and folding it before placing it on the table.
'I ran into Malfoy.'
Sophie raised her eyebrows. 'And?'
'She's completely mad.'
'What did she say.'
'Some weird shit, but I'll make sure she won't get away with it.' Zoë grinned.
Sophie straightened up, intrigued by what her friend just said. 'What are you going to do to her?' Sophie asked.
'Let's just say, she'll regret ever having met me.' Zoë smirked. 'It is time to get some sweet revenge.'

A/N:

Hi there

Oi, oi, what is Parkinson up to now? And how will Narcissa and Christopher's date go?

Ugh I'm sorry it's such a short chapter, I'm literally out of inspiration when it comes down to writing new chapters for this story :/ and it's so freaking frustrating!

I'll do my very best to write a new chapter as soon as possible, but with my exams nearing it's getting harder to give myself some free time. I'll see what I can do, I hope I'll be able to update not next Saturday but the Saturday after that, as usual :)

lots of love

xx
