Chapter 9: Is that a yes?
Hermione slowly opened her eyes to see the man she loved staring back at her. A small smile appeared on his face as he tucked a lock behind her ear.
‘Good morning beautiful.’ Draco said before pressing his lips softly against hers.
‘Good morning.’ Hermione whispered, pulling the duvet up to her chin.
‘Are you ready for our little trip?’ Draco asked.
Hermione smiled.
‘Of course.’
‘A well-deserved vacation.’ Hermione said.
Draco had been working his butt off as an Auror and Hermione had been busy studying to become a Healer. They needed a little get away, so they planned a romantic trip for themselves to Verona. Hermione had been packing the past two days and they were ready to go. Hermione pressed her lips softly against Draco when she heard her mobile ringing. Hermione sighed and turned around, picking it up before pressing it against her ear.
‘Hi?’
‘Good morning.’ Ginny said cheerful.
‘Good morning.’ Hermione chuckled.
Draco raised his eyebrows and Hermione mouthed “Ginny”. Draco nodded and sat up in bed.
‘I just wanted to wish you a fun vacation before you left.’ Ginny said.
Hermione smiled.
‘Thank you Gin. I think that won’t be a problem.’ Hermione said as Draco placed a kiss on her forehead and left their bedroom.
Ginny laughed.
‘Could you text me or call when your plane has landed?’ Ginny asked.
‘Of course!’ Hermione said.
‘How’s everything over at your place?’ Hermione asked.
‘It’s okay, Harry and I are going to go out for dinner tonight. We haven’t really had the chance to see each other much the past three weeks.’ Ginny said.
‘Sounds fun.’ Hermione smiled.
‘I just hope we won’t grow apart with our busy schedules.’ Ginny sighed.
‘Oh Gin, of course not! You’re just really busy, but that doesn’t mean you’ll grow apart!’ Hermione said sitting up in bed.
‘We barely see each other. He’s constantly away from home for work and so am I. Constantly training, especially with the upcoming game nearing.’ Ginny said.
‘Ahw Gin, it’ll be alright. Really. I’ve never seen two people as happy together as the two of you.’ Hermione said.
‘What about you and Draco? You’ve got that true love bond.’ Ginny said.
‘True love bond?’ Hermione asked confused.
‘Oh….. yes….. you didn’t know about that hu?’ Ginny said.
‘Never mind.’ Ginny said quickly.
‘Gin? What were you talking about?’ Hermione asked.
‘It’s nothing.’ Ginny said.
‘Anyway, I’ve got you and Draco VIP tickets for the next game.’ Ginny said.
‘Gin-‘
‘Oh Harry’s calling, got to go, don’t forget to text me, love you, bye.’ Ginny said before ending the call.
Hermione sighed and placed her phone back on the nightstand next to her. Hermione got out of bed and walked to the kitchen where she heard Draco humming a song.
‘Draco?’ Hermione said.
Draco gave her a quick glance over the shoulder .
‘Something wrong?’ Draco asked after seeing the look on her face.
Draco turned away from the cups of tea he was making and motioned for her to come over. Hermione sighed and took a few steps closer.
‘What do you know about a true love bond?’ Hermione asked.
Draco raised his eyebrows.
‘A true love bond?’ Draco asked.
‘Oh my goodness, you know what I’m talking about!’ Hermione exclaimed.
‘What?’ Draco asked.
‘I can see it by the way your mouth twitched.’ Hermione said.
‘Tell me what is it?’ Hermione said taking another step closer.
Draco sighed.
‘Okay.’ Draco said.
‘When you were taken Ginny, Harry, Ron, Blaise, Luna, Neville, Seamus, Dean and I were trying to find a way to get to you. We had been spending all of our hours in the library, going through as many books as we could to get any information that might help us. Then Luna came across something. It said something about a true love bond between two people. It was the strongest thing in the Wizarding World, even stronger than the killing curse. The fact that I felt the Cruciatus Curse when someone had attacked you with it gave us stuff to think about. And especially after the moment you jumped in front of me when Rodolphus tried to kill me and it rebounded, killing him. Well we know for a fact that you should’ve died, even if the curse rebounded, you should’ve died right on the spot. We think that because of the fact you saved me and we’ve got that bond, which only appears once in 100 years or 1000 years, you survived.’ Draco said.
Hermione looked at him with widened eyes.
‘Are you joking?’ Hermione laughed.
‘No, I’m serious.’ Draco said.
‘We’re not living in a fairy tale book!’ Hermione laughed.
‘Hermione.’ Draco said, placing his hands on either side of her arms.
‘I’m not joking, I’m serious.’ Draco said.
Hermione stopped laughing and looked up at his serious face.
‘What does this mean?’ Hermione asked softly.
Draco shook his head.
‘It just means that we will know when the other is in pain or real trouble.’ Draco said.
‘But you didn’t feel anything when I Rodolphus took me with him.’ Hermione said.
Draco sighed.
‘I think that’s because you were knocked out.’ Draco said.
‘Because I do remember having a huge headache at some point.’ Draco said brushing his hand through his hair.
‘Draco.’ Hermione whispered.
‘It’s nothing Hermione, it will only help us. It won’t harm us.’ Draco said.
‘But what if it does?’
‘It doesn’t. We have been living with it our whole lives and we’re still around.’ he said wrapping his arms around her and pulling her into a hug.
Hermione rested her head against his chest and heard his heartbeat.
‘I’m scared.’ Hermione said.
Draco looked down at her.
‘Why? It’s totally okay, we’re both save. And I’m here to protect you.’ Draco said brushing her hair.
‘You can’t really protect me from that.’ Hermione sighed.
‘What do you mean?’ Draco asked confused.
‘I’m scared, because you’re the only one who can break my heart, and no one really has had that kind of power over me.’ Hermione said softly into his chest.
Draco raised his eyebrows, totally surprised by what she just told him.
‘Don’t be scared of that, that will never happen.’ Draco said.
Hermione looked up at him.
‘I love you.’ she said.
‘I love you too.’ Draco said before kissing her.
