Chapter 51: Long time no see
Two days passed and Narcissa felt better each day physically speaking, but mentally she was drained. James hadn't come once to visit her and when she asked Elizabeth and Isobelle, they hadn't seen him all day either. Christopher spent time with her in the common room, since he couldn't go up to the girl's dormitory. It was nice being around him, but yet the last conversation she had the night she had gotten out of the Hospital Wing with Elizabeth and Isobelle kept playing in the back of her mind. She wanted to forget everything, but not seeing James made it harder and the doubts grow bigger. She had written a letter to her mother, asking for advice, but quickly crumbled it into a ball and set it on fire with a spell. Something kept her from telling her mother everything and she didn't know whether it was shame, anxiousness or nervousness for what her mother would think of her. Her mind both longing for the past and present, but which of the two would be her future?
'Hey Cissa.' Scorpius grinned as he sat down next to his sister in the Great Hall. Narcissa looked up, snapped away from her thoughts and back to reality.
'Oh hey.' she smiled.
'Where was your head at?'
She shrugged. 'Everywhere and nowhere at the same time.'
'That's odd.'
'It sure is, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you sit with your friends?'
'I wanted to know how you were doing.' Scorpius shrugged.
'Well, I'm fine, how about you?'
'Good.' Scorpius nodded. 'Have you send mum a letter yet considering your visit to the Hospital Wing.'
'Yes, I send her a letter, perhaps a little later than I had anticipated.'
'Alright then, I wonder how she reacts. What have you written her?'
'That I'm fine, but that I had an accident during the Quidditch match which put me in the experienced hands of Madam Pomfrey.' Narcissa joked. 'No, I told her I was good now, that I was knocked off my broom and that she doesn't have to worry.'
'We both know mum, always worrying.'
'That she does.' Narcissa agreed. 'What are you up to this weekend?'
'Nothing much really.' Scorpius answered, taking a sip of Narcissa's tea. 'You?'
'I'm not sure yet. It's Hogsmeade weekend, so I was thinking of going. It depends on how my head is feeling.'
'Fair enough, if you go, could you get me something like sweets?'
'I'll see what I can do.' Narcissa nodded. 'Oh have you seen James the past few days?'
'Yeah, not much, but I have seen him. I saw him just now going down the stairs in the direction of the Hufflepuff common room.'
'That's odd.'
Scorpius shrugged. 'I guess, enjoy your lunch.'
'Thanks, you too.' she mumbled, a frown on her forehead. What was James doing going down towards the Hufflepuff common room? Unless he didn't go to the Hufflepuff common room, but to the kitchen. That does explain why Elizabeth and Isobelle hadn't seen him around the past two days. 'Hey, should you be out of bed?'
Narcissa looked up and smiled. 'I'm not sick, nor injured.'
'Not anymore no, but still recovering.' Christopher stated, sitting down opposite her.
'I can recover away from my bed. I can hardly keep missing classes, now can I?'
'It's been three days, one of which was Sunday.'
'Still two days of classes to catch up on.'
'As if you haven't caught up on those missed classes and done pre-work for the next five while you were chained to your bed.'
'Perhaps I did, perhaps I didn't.' Narcissa smiled. 'I was bored and I couldn't sleep so I figured why not use this time in a useful way?'
'Fair enough.' Christopher nodded. 'How's your head?'
'Fine.' she replied. 'How's yours?'
'Good.' he grinned. 'Just full of worry.'
'That's not good.'
'I can handle it.' he winked.
'Have you perhaps seen James lately?'
'I can't say that I have. Why? Something wrong?'
'Oh no, it's just that I haven't seen him yet.'
Christopher furrowed his eyebrows, but chose to keep his mouth shut about the matter. 'What are you up to today?'
'I'm going to sneak into DADA and after that Potions before I'm off to the library.'
'Sounds exciting.' he teased.
'Oh I know, I have a very exciting life. What about you?''Classes, there's no rest for the wicked.'
'Apparently so.' Narcissa chuckled before taking a sip of her tea.Narcissa made her way down the stairs towardsthe library when she saw a familiar face just passing the stairs. 'James?' shecalled, hurrying down before she'd miss him. 'James!' she called again, runningtowards him before stopping him by pulling on his arm. He turned around andraised his eyebrows. 'Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you were someone else.' shequickly apologized when she saw it was merely another student and not James atall.
'No problem.' the boy shrugged before continuing on. Narcissa sighed and turnedaround to walk the other way.
'I heard my name?'
She looked up and smiled when she saw James standing in the middle of thehallway. 'There you are!' she grinned broadly, rushing up to him and wrappingher arms around his neck. 'I've been trying to cross your path all day!'
'I've been rather busy.' James shrugged as Narcissa pulled away. 'How's yourhead?'
'Good.' she nodded. 'But we have to talk.'
'I think we do.' James agreed, scanning her face. 'But first come with me.'
'I'm serious James.' she started as James pulled her after him down thecorridor. 'I'm so sorry for everything. I know you saw Christopher and me inthe Hospital Wing and it should never have happened, but I do want you to knowthat it was merely a friendly gesture. I was feeling horrible and he was thereso we chatted for a while before we both must've fallen asleep. I've beenmeaning to talk to you, but you didn't come up to visit me and I wasn't allowedout of the Ravenclaw Tower-'
'It's okay.' James interrupted as he stopped in front of the painting that wasalso the entrance to the kitchen. 'I should've been there instead of him tocomfort you and I'm sorry for that.'
'Don't be!'
James stepped into the kitchen after tickling the pear, Narcissa following. When he stepped out of the way Narcissa's jaw dropped. In front of her was thetable set with plates, glasses, two candles and a rose in a small vase. 'Didyou do this?' Narcissa asked dumbstruck.
'I had help from a few friends.' James smiled.
'But what for?'
'To make up the fact that I wasn't there when I should've and to show you howhappy I am that we're finally together after several years of pining after you.'he half laughed.
'It's amazing James, it really is.' she smiled before pressing a kiss to hischeek.
'I'm glad you think so.'A/N
I know the chapter is extremely short, but there's literally no inspiration left. The next update will be the last chapter of this book, so be prepared. You don't have to miss me though because there's always Are you the one that I want? which is also almost finished and in case you've already read that one, I'm already working on the first chapter of a new Dramione love story, so keep your eyes open for that if you want to read it :) I'll try to remember to add a little snippet of the new Dramione story to the last chapter of this book.
Thank you for being so extremely patient with me and I'll try to find some time in my busy schedule to write the last chapter so I can upload it as soon as possible!
In case I don't speak to you before Christmas, a very merry Christmas to you all! And to lighten the mood I'd like to close this chapter with two questions for you all:
1.) What Christmas movie do you watch every year with just as much joy as the year before?
2.) What part of Christmas do you like the most?Merry Christmas and a happy new year! (even though I'm hoping to have updated before the new year starts, but I can't promise anything!)
Lots of love
xx
