Chapter 6: A life changing decision
'Hermione?' Ron asked, rather surprised by her sudden visit.
'Oh Ron I don't know what to do.' Hermione breathed as she walked past him into his apartment, which he shared with Lavender.
'What are you talking about?' Ron asked.
'Life.' Hermione sighed letting herself fall back on the couch.
Lavender walked into their small living room, eyebrows raised as her eyes travelled from Hermione to Ron and back. Ron shook his head and waved her away. Lavender nodded and walked back to their kitchen.
'Life you say?' Ron said sitting down next to her.
'Yes.'
'I'm sorry, I'm not following?'
Hermione sighed, hiding her face in her hands.
'Viktor proposed again and I said yes.' Hermione said.
'You're engaged?' Ron asked surprised.
'And this morning I kissed Draco.....' Hermione said biting her lip.
'You kissed Malfoy? And you're engaged to Krum..... are you planning a threesome?' Ron asked.
Hermione widened her eyes and slapped him across the arm.
'Ron!'
'What!'
'So are you going to marry Krum?' Ron asked.
'No, yes, no, I don't know.' Hermione groaned, hiding behind a pillow she had taken from behind her back.
'Hermione.' Ron sighed.
Hermione looked over the pillow at her best friend, whom she had missed for two years.
'Why did you kiss Draco?'
Hermione sighed.
'I was sitting in the park, just reading and then he came barging into my life again after I finally closed his chapter in my life. And there he was, telling me all those wonderful and amazing things and then it just happened, we kissed.' Hermione told him softly.
Ron furrowed his eyebrows.
'And you said yes to Krum's proposal the previous night?' Ron asked.
'Yes! Literally just a few hours before the kissing happened.' Hermione groaned.
'Right.' Ron nodded.
'Not that I don't want you here or anything.... but why did you come to me with this problem? Isn't Ginny your person?' Ron asked.
Hermione sighed.
'Your sister is on her honeymoon! I'm not going to call her, hell I don't even think she'd pick up! So I need you to be my person for now.' Hermione told him.
'Right.' Ron nodded again.
'What do I need to do now?' Hermione asked.
'How should I know?' Ron asked.
'Ron! You should help me! I need you to help me!' Hermione exclaimed desperately.
'You want me to help you with making a decision about your future? About the rest of your life?' Ron asked.
Hermione bit her lip and nodded. Ron sighed and shook his head.
'Hermione, you can't let anyone else but yourself make a decision about your life. You'll have to live with that decision for the rest of your life.' Ron said.
'But I don't know what to do.' Hermione said desperately.
'Perhaps you need a night to sleep, let everything sink in, before you make a decision.' Ron suggested.
'What did you feel when Krum proposed?' Ron asked.
'Which time?'
'Which time?' Ron asked confused.
'This might've been the third time.' Hermione said.
Ron raised his eyebrows.
'Let's say the last time?' Ron sighed rubbing his forehead.
'I don't know. I felt different. After having given Draco the letter I thought that would be it. I walked away from Draco and the past by giving him that letter. I felt..... happy? When Viktor proposed, I think.' Hermione said.
'Now, what did you feel when Malfoy kissed you?' Ron asked.
'I was shocked at first, but then it felt familiar, it felt like....home? I forgot about everything around me, it was just him and me in that moment.' Hermione said before she sighed.
Ron looked at her.
'I think you know the answer yourself already.' Ron said.
Hermione looked over at him and slowly nodded.
'It think I do.'
'You want a cuppa?' Ron asked getting up.
'That would be nice.' she said taking in a deep breath.Hermione buried her hands deep in her pockets, trying to warm them up in there against the chilly Autumn wind. Hermione turned a corner and walked down the familiar street before stopping in front of the door. She opened it with her key before walking up the stairs and stopping again in front of the door, leading into the apartment she'd been staying in the past month. She turned the key in the keyhole before opening the door and walking in. She closed the door behind her and walked into the living room. She pulled her coat off and placed it on the couch before she sat down next to it. She sighed and hid her face in her hands.
'What have I done.' she breathed, leaning back against the couch.
She slowly got off the couch and walked to Ginny and Harry's Guest Room. She sat down on the bed and saw a little note on the pillow. Hermione picked it up and unfolded it.
"The fact that you're now reading this note means something happened. Go call me now! xxGin"
Hermione sighed and pulled her phone out of her pocket before dialling Ginny's number.
'Hermione?'
'Hi Gin. I saw your note.'
'Oh no. Harry, I'm right back.' Ginny said on the other end of the line.
'What happened? Are you okay? Do you want me to come back?'
'Come back? No! You're staying there! I'll be fine.'
'What happened?'
'I....erm...... Viktor proposed last night, and I said yes.' Hermione said.
'And now you don't want to marry him and you've broken up with him?'
'Not exactly.'
'Uhm?'
'The next morning I went to the park again and sat down on the bench and started reading when I was interrupted by Draco and that might have ended with us kissing.' Hermione sighed.
'Oh! But that's wonderful!' Ginny squealed excitedly.
'Gin! Stop taking his side and take mine for once.' Hermione said.
'I am taking your side when I take his side!' Ginny defended.
'Gin.' Hermione sighed.
'Okay, okay sorry.' Ginny said.
'So, what happened then?' Ginny asked.
'Nothing. I might have slightly run away.....' Hermione trailed off.
'YOU DID WHAT?' Ginny exclaimed.
'You ran away!' Ginny said.
'If there is something that scarred Draco, that's the fact that you ran away! You're leaving the poor guy with a trauma.' Ginny said.
'Oh shit.' Hermione sighed placing her hand on her forehead.
'I'm so stupid.' Hermione breathed.
'We'll come back to that later.' Ginny said.
'Now, what are you going to do? Are you marrying Viktor or are you going back to Draco?'
'I thought I knew, but I don't know if it's the right decision.' Hermione sighed.
'I actually went to Ron this afternoon.' Hermione said.
'To do what?'
'Ask for advice.'
'Advice? From Ron?'
'Yes, and he actually, sort of, helped me.' Hermione said.
Ginny chuckled.
'Okay.'
'Really though.'
'But you still don't know what to do.'
'I thought I did before I left his apartment.'
'Right.'
'Now what?' Hermione asked.
Ginny sighed.
'How did it feel, kissing Draco?'
Hermione bit her lip.
'It felt like nothing happened, familiar, I even felt... happy, I guess?' Hermione said.
'It felt like I had been missing a piece of my life for a long time, but when he kissed me, that piece was no longer missing. I was a whole again.' Hermione said softly.
She heard Ginny silently squeal on the other end of the line.
'Well isn't it obvious then? What you should do I mean?' Ginny asked.
'I don't know.' Hermione sighed.
'I do! Go to Draco! Now!' Ginny said.
'First of all to apologize for running away and scarring him even more. Second of all to wrap your arms around him and kiss him passionately before-' Ginny started.
'Ginny!' Hermione interrupted.
'Go Hermione! Go to Draco! You belong with each other! You both are miserable on your own.' Ginny said.
Hermione frowned.
'Hermione, you won't only make yourself happy but a lot of people who love the both of you, but love the sight of the two of you together even more.' Ginny said.
'Yes, but I have to break someone's heart, whom I also love, along the way.' Hermione sighed.
'Either way you'll have to do that. When you choose Draco, you'll break Viktor's heart, when you choose Viktor, you'll crush Draco's heart.' Ginny said.
Hermione bit her lip.
'Go to sleep, think about it and do what you think is best tomorrow.' Ginny said.
'Okay.'
'Good night, and if there is anything else, you can always call. And you can stay in our apartment as long as you want.' Ginny said.
'Thank you Gin.' Hermione said.
'Have fun on your honeymoon.' Hermione smiled.
'That won't be a problem.' Ginny chuckled before they both said goodbye and Hermione ended the call.
She let herself fall back on the bed and stared up at the ceiling. Thinking back at the time she spend in Verona and Sydney with the most wonderful people. She sighed. She missed them a lot and emailing, texting and calling isn't the same as being around them. Jackson had reached out to her again three months ago. She felt the desire to go and hug him, but obviously that was impossible, he was on the other side of the world. The time she had spent with Jackson had been amazing and she did love him, but she knew if she'd stay there in Australia she wouldn't get where she wanted to be. She wouldn't be able to fully cope with everything that had happened, to find herself again. As much as she hated to admit it, Jackson was keeping her from pursuing her mission. He had been so nice, caring and sweet towards her. Surprising her when she didn't expect it, giving her flowers just because, wrapping his arms around her when she was busy in the kitchen. He was so spontaneous and she missed that around her. She missed his friendship around her. And she was so glad when he finally contacted her after she had tried contacting him for months. Spamming his whole mail box full with mails, telling him what was happening. Hermione sighed and turned on her side. She closed her eyes and slowly fell asleep.
