Chapter 14: The Truth

Hermione stared at Blaise, silent tears rolling down her cheeks, as he told about the two years that she had been gone. The first year had been the toughest and after the incident with the girl and the fact that he had almost died, 6 times, he had been living in a shell. He did go out with friends, but he didn't go overboard anymore like that night. He did go on a date with a girl he met when he was strolling through the park, 6 months before Hermione would return, right before he had totally given up on ever seeing her again, but the date only made him feel worse, and made him miss Hermione even more then he already did. He did do something with his life, he just put all his effort in his work, until that day. The day he saw Hermione again for the first time in two years. The way he had felt, the way his heartbeat raised when he saw she came into the room, the way she had looked at him later when she had stepped outside and all of a sudden saw him, that's when he knew, both of their feelings hadn't changed.
'He was a totally different person after the engagement party of Harry and Ginny.' Blaise told her.
Hermione gave him a small smile.
'He smiled again, really smiled. He seemed to cheer up and finally see light at the end of a very long and dark tunnel. He was Draco again.' Blaise said.
'He just didn't know how to get you to talk to him. He was a nervous wreck the month to the wedding.' Blaise laughed.
'You should've seen him, it was quite hilarious.'
'Oh you're such a good friend.' Hermione chuckled.
'You know, that day when you agreed to have lunch with him? He came home with the biggest smile on his face.'
Hermione smiled.
'It's cheesy, I know. But it's true. The guy loves you and has been loving you even though he didn't know if you still felt the same way those two years.' Blaise said.
'I never knew he came to Verona to find me, to get me back to the UK.' Hermione sighed.
Blaise nodded.
'And that he met my friends over there! How couldn't they tell me when we were over there together?'
'Perhaps they promised to keep their mouths shut about it just as we did?'
Hermione nodded as she hid her face in her hands.
'I can't believe he almost died.' Hermione said.
Blaise gently pulled her hands away from her face and held them.
'He didn't and partly because of your letter. I think it might've helped him hold on to life.'
Hermione looked up at him.
'Blaise, what if he had? What if he had died? It would've been my fault.' Hermione said as a tear rolled down her cheek.
'It wouldn't have. You were trying to figure out what you wanted with your life. It would've been no one's fault. Literally no one's. And if people really needed to point a finger at someone it would've been me, because I told him about Jackson.' Blaise said.
Hermione shook her head.
'But he didn't die, he's still here.' Blaise said.
Hermione nodded as she gave him a small smile.
'So that night, when I was woken up by this excruciating pain, it was because that Death Eater used the Cruciatus curse on Draco?' Hermione asked.
'Yeah, because of that whole "true love" bond thing the two of you got.' Blaise winked.
Hermione sighed.
'How is it we've got this bond even though we literally hated each other in the past?' Hermione asked.
Blaise smiled.
'After Luna showed us the book where she had found it in I took it from her to read for myself. There was this whole description about how two people can have this bond and it only happens once in a 1000 years or so. They're meant for each other the moment they are born, but that doesn't mean the bond is already in progress at that point. The two people can grow towards each other at a certain point, and with the both of you it just happened to be our last year at Hogwarts when you had to live together. That's when the bond started to work it's magic, you were pulled towards each other. From that point you were able to feel the other's pain, you started to feel if something was wrong and so on. That might be the reason why you've been so worried about Draco, not only because he didn't want to tell you what was wrong, but also the fact that you could feel that something was wrong. And those weeks after the excruciating pain, you told Ginny in your letter that you felt like Draco was about to do something stupid, he was until Ginny sat down and talked to him, read your letter to him.' Blaise said.
'I know it all sounds like it could've come from a fairy tale book, and I didn't believe it in the beginning either. How could there be a true love bond? How could something like that exist? But all the things that have been happening, the both of you being able to feel the other's pain, sensing something was wrong and so on, I can't seem to find any reason why it isn't true.' Blaise told her.
Hermione slowly nodded.
'I might go and look it up soon.' Hermione said tucking a lock behind her ear.
Blaise gave her a small smile.
'I don't see why you shouldn't look it up. It's something that has been affecting your life, your choices.' Blaise said.
Hermione looked up at him.
'Thank you for helping me out Blaise.' Hermione said.
'I figured it would be better if you knew the whole truth, plus how can I not help a distraught woman?' Blaise smiled.
'I better go.' Hermione said as she got up.
'Thank you for the tea and again thank you for telling me everything.' Hermione said.
Blaise nodded.
'Oh Hermione, I totally forgot!' Blaise said.
Hermione turned to look at him as she raised her eyebrows.
'Rosaline and I are engaged.' Blaise cheered.
'What? Already? I mean congratulations!' Hermione smiled as she gave him a hug.
'Since when?'
'Last night.'
'I'm so happy for you Blaise, and don't take this the wrong way, but aren't you going a itsy bitsy fast?' Hermione asked.
Blaise smiled.
'It feels like the right thing to do, she makes me happy, I make her happy, we love each other.' Blaise said.
Hermione gave him a smile before she nodded.
'Well I'll support you no matter what.' Hermione said.
'Thanks, you're a good friend Hermione, even though you ran away and stayed away for two years, nowhere to be found.'
Hermione rolled her eyes as the door opened behind her. She turned to see Rosaline walking in.
'Have you told her the good news?' Rosaline asked excited.
Hermione smiled, he really had found the right girl.
'Yes of course! Congratulations! Now show me the ring.' Hermione chuckled as she hugged Rosaline.

Hermione slowly walked into their apartment and as she made her way into the kitchen she saw Draco standing there, making them dinner.
'Hi.'
Draco turned around and sighed in relief.
'There you are! I was worried. Are you alright?' Draco asked as he wrapped his arms around her.
'Why were you worried?'
Draco kissed the top of her head as he shrugged.
'I don't know, I just had the odd feeling you were shocked or scared or sad or all the above.' Draco said taking her face in between his hands and inspecting her face.
'Are you?'
Hermione stood up on her tiptoes and kissed his lips.
'I'm fine.' Hermione said.
Draco gave her a small smile and nodded.
'Good. Now come and help me with dinner.'

'Draco.' Hermione said softly, staring at the wall as she felt Draco's arm slightly move.
'Hmm?'
Hermione turned around to face him and saw his features in the dark.
'Why don't you want to talk about the two years that I was gone?' Hermione asked.
Draco sighed.
'Because I don't want to talk about it.'
'And what is the reason behind that?'
'It was a tough time for me and I don't like thinking back to that time.' Draco said.
'Or are you ashamed of what happened?'
Hermione could see Draco furrow his eyebrows as she carefully brought the matter.
'How much do you know?' Draco asked.
'What are you talking about?'
'I know you know at least something Hermione, how much do you know?'
'Everything.' Hermione muttered.
'Seriously?' Draco asked sitting up straight in bed.
'Who? Who told you?'
'It doesn't matter who told me, sooner or later I would've found out anyway.'
'Hermione, why did you go after it when I told you I didn't want to talk about it?'
'Because I was worried, it felt as if something was terribly wrong. You were so quiet lately, you didn't want to talk at all.' Hermione said sitting up next to him before switching her bed side light on.
Draco's features softened as Hermione told him the latter.
'Oh Hermione, just come to me next time when you feel like that.' Draco said placing his hand on her arm.
'I did, multiple times, but you just pushed me away.'
Draco shook his head.
'I know and I shouldn't have pushed you away. I just didn't want to burden you with what happened those two years.' Draco said.
Hermione cupped his cheek as a small smile appeared on her face.
'Draco, you should be able to share your thoughts with me, your feelings, the good things that happen, but also the bad. When there's something wrong you should be able to tell me what's wrong. I'm here for you no matter what. Nothing is a burden to me when it comes to you.' Hermione told him.
Draco kissed her hand and nodded.
'I know and I think you might be right, I'm quite ashamed of that time.' Draco said.
'Aren't I always right.' Hermione winked.
'You're still a know-it-all even after all these years.'
Hermione chuckled as she playfully punched his arm.
'I love you and I promise you that I'll talk to you when something's wrong.' Draco said.
'Good.'
'Were you though, giving up?' Hermione asked softly.
Draco frowned and sighed.
'It sounds weird, because I was unconscious, I was in a coma, but still- I missed your presence which made me lose hope in some sort of way. If Ginny hadn't done what she did I don't know if we would be having this conversation.' Draco said softly in all honesty.
Hermione bit her lip as she shook her head.
'What would I have done without you Draco?' Hermione said.
Draco wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close to him.
'You shouldn't think about it, I'm still here, you're still here and we're happy.' Draco said softly into her hair.
'I love you, I always will and always have.' Hermione said as she pulled away.
Draco smiled as he pressed a gentle kiss to her lips.
'I love you too.' he whispered.
