A Dream :

I was nervous.

Never had I ever been in a competition on my own and after our first race, I never thought I would step foot in another. Not without her. But Bunny insisted. She signed me up for the solo competition and now we're training for it.

With her coaching of course. From the sidelines. Her foot is still kind of hurting from whatever she stepped on. Carol made it clear that she couldn't think about getting on a horse for this. Onika had no choice but to agree. She's in pain.

It snuck up on her cause she was just fine at first. Since we got her from that basement she was okay. Until this mornin. Now she can barely stand up. Mama made sure to treat her, get her situated enough to at least walk in her sprang boot.

She's limpin all around.

"Bey don't think about it too much. Just slang over."

"Bunny i'm tryin." I grumbled lowly, stepping my foot into the loop. The solo competition is much more competitive because it's only one person. Everything gotta catch the eye. Down to how fast you can slang up on the damn horse.

"Ugh, I wish I could show you....Dont bug yaself out Yoncé, it's alright....Let me show you."

"No. You sit ya behind right there and don't move."

"It's just one little thing, ain't much." She got up anyways, coming towards me. I kept a stern face but she ain't give not one care. Figured she would just do what she wanted.

Off default I held the back of her, making sure she ain't lose balance. If she fall imma be so upset wit myself. The way she looked in these jeans had my attention too....

"When you lift, are you lookin, Yoncé?"

"Mm? Yea i'm lookin." I looked up at her. She dropped her shoulders at me. "What? I am lookin."

"At what i'm doin, Yoncé."

"Alright, i'll pay attention." I chuckled, still keeping a hold on her. She started over with stepping in the loop.

"Ok. So when you lift, bend the leg that you gotta swing over. If ya don't it'll take longer cause you gotta do a lot more movin. Just bend ya leg, swipe and sit." She did it, makin it look easier than what it really is. I still nodded as if I had it. Hopefully I do. "You got it."

I helped her down, making her go to her seat so I could try. She always wanna do more than what she posed to, that's why she in this position now.

We practiced jumping on the horse for a bit longer until I got frustrated with it. I woulda quit practicin in whole but I knew she ain't wanna go back inside. This the only reason she out here.

I was now tryin my best to get Glaze around the barrels and hurdles. Glaze is a trained horse so she knows but it's up to me to give her the right directions. I'm failin miserably.

"Stop gettin upset witcha self!" Bunny yelled at me across the field as I took a deep breath from getting mad. It's like she fussin at me and ion like it. I wish she was out here with me.

But since her concussion I doubt they'll give her another chance. It'll be a while.

I drug my feet to her, my head low.

"Come on, we can go inside."

"I wanna get it, Bunny. I don't know what i'm doin wrong."

"You got it Bey you just bein hard on yaself. Let it flow, stop tryna be perfect."

"But you perfect."

"No I ain't. You see where I am? Sittin here teachin you. That's cause I ain't perfect." She got up, having to grab onto my arm for stability. I slid my hand to her waist so she could gain her balance. "Stop looking all long faced. You so pretty Yoncé, I wanna see that smile."
