Flower lay on the single bed in the mental health ward on the eighth floor of St. Paul's Hospital Center , holding her daughter's favorite old rag doll in her arms , tears staining her face.
This pain she was feeling right now...... It was all the fault of Zipp. He wanted to get into a relationship because he was lonely. He wanted to have a child. It was always what he wanted. Sometimes she hated that bastard so much.
She sat up and looked at the chair next to the window. At the bathrobe draped across its back. At the belt of the robe. Zipp and her family had brought it down to her along with her nightgown and some makeup and pretty ribbons for her hair and a couple of books. They wouldn't give her anything but the books and the robe and the nightgown that she was wearing now.
The robe.
She looked up at the robe and its belt as she tightened her arms around the doll. " I think I know how we can escape, my darling Diamond," she whispered to the doll.
Then she stood up gingerly and began to move towards the robe when all of a sudden the nurses rolled a stretcher into the narrow dimly lit room. On it rested a sleeping or unconscious woman with short blonde hair.
One nurse chortled," You have company, dear. For a while anyway. She's only here to recover from having her appendix removed. Then she'll be back to the state hospital. Meet Pamela Perkins. "
