Matilda refused to go to the hospital after Mary had the baby. Why should she support this ridiculous nonsense of her teen daughter? The idea of getting knocked up on purpose by a boy like Niles Norland was just silly. First , Mary was just a child herself. Only sixteen and him seventeen. Two , the boy was a creepy one with darkness inside him. If he would treat his father like that for basically no reason he would treat Mary the same. Just watch. And the boy had no money. None at all. Except for his mother who had disowned him basically after he made Mary pregnant and his father. She knew Richard's type intimately. The man would eventually stop paying the allowance especially when Niles turned eighteen and graduated Barrington. She could see it coming now. Mary made a bad choice and she was just glad that the two were using Richard's money to move out of her house. As she moved down her staircase she began to laugh. And Mary wanted Richard to pay for a nanny while they went to school. That was stupid. Most likely baby Trey would be watched by Nance in the morning as the old lady ate up all Mary's food. Maybe her mother could move into Mary's place, she thought eagerly. It did have three bedrooms after all. That would improve things greatly at the house. Give her more time to focus on her own life. Like getting back to wooing the still grieving for old Jenessa Nicholas into her bed. Like getting a ring on her finger. After all they had been talking more by phone and text since Nigel's attack and transplant. Nicholas had not forgiven her for the whole not telling him about the baby thing in the past but he seemed to be moving on. Now , she mused as she tapped out a dinner invitation that night on her phone to the man in question and hit send, he needed to move on in other ways. She stopped in the hallway. She hoped he accepted. She would prepare all his favorite Russian dishes and have the finest vodka to drink. She would even shift her mother and Race Jr. over to Mary's that night so they wouldn't scare the man. But part of her felt sad. Mainly because she thought about Oscar. Oscar was nice and funny and sweet to her but..... His family money had dwindled down to just barely enough to pay his basic living expenses. He was not nearly as flush as Nicholas. So..... the assistant headmaster with the puppy dog eyes that seemed to see into her soul, who had told her all his secrets including that he was bisexual and in the closet, the one who appeared to be developing a crush on her, the one whose daily messages to her never failed to have her smiling like no other man had...... So , he was just not appropriate to fulfill her many needs and wants. Pity.
A brisk knock at her door threw her out of her pensive thoughts and she quickly hurried to the door just as Nicholas responded back with " Yes , that sounds lovely". She smiled at the text message but as she opened the door and saw who it was there knocking the smile swiftly slipped away from her beautiful face.
The person standing on the front porch smiling coolly at her was her bloody damn younger sister Margaret.
Margaret, who had never forgave her for Nicholas choosing her instead. What a silly goose. Didn't she realize Nicholas had just been business in a sense? A means to an end? Who told Margaret to fall in love? It was all those trashy romance books she had read as a girl that put those thoughts of love and happily ever after in her sister's head. She should be happy though. If Margaret had gotten Nicholas she would have not handled the potential danger of his family back then any better than she herself had. And she never would have met her reporter Prince Charming the saintly Peter. Although, she remembered vividly with a sudden smile, Peter was not a saint on one particular occasion. Margaret would never forgive her that either although she had Peter Reilly.
" Hello, sister , " Margaret said coldly. " I've been to see my nephew. He's a nice lad. He certainly cannot take after you. Must be Nicholas. "
