Joy should have been working on her sermon for the upcoming Sunday service. Or maybe visiting shut ins and the sick at the hospital. Or perhaps working in the community garden.
Something more useful than reading a library book called Having A Perfect Wedding - Your Way. And texting with Devin who was eager to plan her and Faith's wedding. Having eloped to the justice with Jas he had never gotten a chance to have the wedding of his dreams although he claimed he was alright with it. But Joy thought he was living vicariously through her and Faith. Every few minutes he was sending texts about dresses, shoes , cakes, food, locations etc. It was almost exhausting really. Although a lot of choices were very tasteful and right up her alley. Money was really no issue to her relief and Faith's slight discomfort since her stepfather Nicholas had promised to pay for the entire wedding. And send them on the honeymoon of their choice. Because of Jenessa who he still loved and missed. Who they all still loved and missed. Especially by her children. Faith particularly felt strong emotions about her mother's murder. One was definitely guilt which she had tried to talk her out of. Faith had no reason to feel guilty. She seriously believed that leaving the police force and going to college was Faith's way of still seeking her mother's approval as well as honoring her mother in a way. Personally she could not see Faith as a teacher really. But she would support her in anything she chose to do although she did wish she would quit that job for Dodie. Dodie was obnoxious, know it all , rude, abrasive and treated Faith like a maid more than a personal assistant. But the woman paid very well; thirty five dollars a hour. No benefits though. She had tried to convince Faith to quit. After all while Faith was in school they could live very well on her pastoral salary, small though it might be. Plus there was also the insurance policy Jenessa had left for her three children; one hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Which meant each got fifty thousand. They had barely made a dent in theirs since Spencer was actually investing theirs and DuBuis'. Those monthly profit margin checks from LifeChapters and FireBook where he had invested a nice amount were actually very nice. Faith liked working though. More importantly she liked working and not " living off other people ".
Her phone dinged as she wondered how Jas was getting on with the hospital sick patient duties. At least he was being useful. Her? She was feeling very tired and out of sorts that day. Not in the mood for much of anything really.
She reached for the phone. It was Winston Arnett. Her eyes widened as she read it.
Winston: This is probably all wrong. But I want to have a baby. Me and Joe. I really want a baby. I want my own. Would you be interested in having a baby with me? My sperm. Your egg. Totally technical really. After Joe and I would raise her or him with you and Faith co parenting if you want to. Or you can sign away rights. If you want to. It's your choice. What do you say, Joy ? Would you be the biological mother of my and Joe's child?
Joy shook her head. She sighed. Now she had to explain that it would not be a good idea since she was HIV positive. Whoopee, she thought as she began to answer his text.
