School has been exhausting. I've been having to do twice as much work since all of us are so behind and it's getting to the point where I'm not sleeping or eating much. Dad is having to pay Carla more because she's staying with me everyday.I keep telling him that I don't need her to stay with me and I can stay home alone, but he said he wants someone with me. He's been acting strange. He's acting secretive. I don't like it.
But there's nothing I can do. I've asked him multiple times what's going on but he just ignores me and changes the topic. He's hiding something.
I know it.

"You want to do what now?!" Isabelle asks, her eyebrows raised. "Steal his phone and look through it." I say. "And why?!" Miles asks as we sit at a table in a diner. "Because. He's acting weird. I want to know what's going on." I say, crossing my arms as I lean back in my chair.
"I thought you said he told you nothing was wrong." Julian says. "Well, actually.. he never said anything. He always changed the topic when I brought up him acting weird." I say. "Isn't that a sign to, I don't know, leave it alone?" Julian asks.
"He never acts like that. He's usually always in control, but how he's acting, isn't right." I say. "Maybe you're overlooking things. You've been known to do that, pretty girl." Miles says. The nickname catches me off guard, but I glare at him instead of blushing. Though, I know I'm blushing a tiny bit. Okay, maybe a lot.
"I don't overlook things. I observe things." I say. "Which can cause you to overlook." Julian says. "I don't need a lecture." I say. "This isn't a lecture, loser." Isabelle says with a laugh. "We're just saying that you might just be playing detective over nothing." Miles says. "And I think we can all tell you're stressed out. You've been stressed all week." Isabelle says.
"It's not nothing. There's something going on." I say, my leg bouncing. "If you believe that, then go through his phone." Isabelle says, taking a sip out of her cup. They make it sound like I'm doing something horrible.
It's not that bad, right?

I sit up in my bed around 11:30 PM. The plan is in action. Dad has to be asleep by now. He laid down around 10. So unless he's having a hard time sleeping, he's out.
I open my bedroom door and tip toe to Dad's room. I slowly open the door and look inside. Just like I thought, Dad's asleep.
I go over to his nightstand and carefully unplug his phone before walking carefully back out of the room and to the kitchen.
I open his phone and unlock it. He doesn't have a passcode so I wouldn't really say I had to unlock it. I open the messages and I see a name that I thought I'd never see or hear again.
Shannon. Mom.
