"So, they just showed up at your house and confronted you on something that wasn't even your fault?" Nate asks as we walk through the halls of the school. "Yes. Well, I wouldn't say it wasn't my fault. I'm still talking to you." I say.

"I didn't bully them. It was my old friends that did. I had nothing to do with it, I swear. Julian and Isabelle just put the blame on me because I didn't stop my friends." Nate says. "I didn't really know how to be honest." Nate adds.

"I get it." I say. "But why did you talk to him the way you did?" I ask "I wanted to stop them but I didn't want to be caught in the line of fire. The things my friends said were horrible. I stopped hanging out with them after they pushed Julian down the stairs. He ended up with broken ribs and his arm broken." Nate says, ignoring my question.

"That's awful.." I say as we walk into the cafeteria. "I know. That's why I stopped talking to them. I've been kind of on my own since then. Until you came around." Nate says as we take a seat at a table.

"I'm nothing special. The only reason I'm here is because of you." I say with a small smile. "You are though. Even before the tsunami, I knew you." Nate says. "How? We didn't come to school the year before." I ask.

"You did the first day. I saw you talking to the English teacher. I thought you were beautiful." Nate says. "Well, thank you." I say with a small laugh as he takes a bag of chips out of his backpack.

"I didn't know how to talk to you, so I asked around. And that's how I found your name." Nate says, shrugging his shoulders. "Through who?" I ask. "Miles." Nate says. "Oh.. he didn't know me either though." I say. "Because he also had his eyes on you." Nate says.

"So he stalked me too?" I ask jokingly. "It wasn't stalking. I asked around and I got my answer." Nate says. "I know." I say with a small laugh. "I'll call you stalker from now on though." I say.

"Of course you will." Nate says with a laugh.

*********

I walk out of the school and start walking to the fire station. Usually, I'd get a ride from Miles but not today. I haven't for the past two weeks. And I think I've already disclosed why. Someone walks up beside me and I look over.

"Oh. Hello." I say. "Hi, Lydia." Miles says. "What do you need?" I ask. "I was wondering if you needed a ride.." Miles says. I stop walking and turn towards him.

"What do you actually want?"I ask, raising my eyebrow. "I wanted to talk. You haven't really given me a chance to talk to you." Miles says. "I think you said everything you needed to." I say, rolling my eyes. "You can't blame me for being angry. You heard the way he talked to me.." Miles says.

"I get it. But you can't control who I talk to. Especially when me and you both know he had nothing to do with the bullying. He told me it was his friends." I say. "He didn't stop them, Lyds!" Miles says. "Would you stop Julian if he was bullying someone?" I ask. "I would try." Miles says.

"Exactly. You would try. Maybe Nathaniel tried. How would you know if he did or not?" I ask. Miles stays quiet, clearly having nothing to say back. "Yeah. My point exactly." I say before turning around and walking away.

Ridiculous.
