did I make this dramatic? yes. do I care? no. sorry for the very bad update schedule guys. school has been a pain. I will be updating more! 🩷

"You know.. we didn't have to sit in silence."
Nathaniel says as we walk out of the classroom and down the hall. "I never said we did." I say, looking over at him. "Well, you didn't say anything so you hinted it." Nathaniel says.

"I didn't really know what to say, Nathaniel." I say. "It's Nate." He says. "Sorry. Nate." I say as we get over to my locker. "I can't just say thank you. I owe you a lot more than that." I add. "There's no need to say anything about the tsunami. We can just forget it happened. Start fresh, you know?" Nate says.

I don't say anything as I open my locker and put my books inside. "I know that's all you'll think about though." Nate says, leaning against the lockers beside mine. "Yeah." I say.

"Let's at least try to forget about it. A fresh start. What do you like to do for fun?" Nate asks. "Reading." I say. "Okay. Uh, a bit boring." Nate says. "Rude." I say. "Nerd." He says. I look over at him with a small laugh.

"What about you?" I ask. "I like sports." Nate says. "So you're an athlete.." I say. "Yep." Nate says. "You fit the perspective." I say, shrugging my shoulders. "What's that supposed to mean?" Nate asks.

"You voice your opinions. You wanted me to know that we didn't have to sit in silence that whole period." I say. "And also you just look like you'd be an athlete." I add. "Because of my muscles or how good I look?" Nate asks, clearly joking but I can't help but be a bit uncomfortable.

"Uh.." I say. "Lydia! I've been looking for you everywhere. I thought we agreed to meet at the library." Miles says as he walks over. "Uh.. sorry. I got caught up talking to Nate." I say.

"Nate? Who's that?" Miles asks. "Clearly the person standing right here." Nate says. "Oh. You." Miles says.

"Miles Brown. Never thought I'd see you again. You know, After..." Nate says. "Shut up, Anderson. Come on, Lydia." Miles says, grabbing my wrist and pulling me away.

"I'd stay away from him if I was you!" Nate yells as we walk out of the building.

*********

"What was that about?!" I ask as Miles pulls out of the school parking lot. "The real question is why were you talking to Nathaniel Anderson?!" Miles asks. "I don't know. I have my last class with him and he just walked with me back to my locker." I say.

"You know what he did to me!" Miles snaps. "No I don't really! You could calm your tone." I say. "God, Lydia. He bullied me for years!! I'm your boyfriend and you're hanging out with my bully?!" Miles says.

"I didn't know for goodness sake!" I say. "Well you should have!!! Instead of focusing on me and Dahlia, you've been stressed about something else!" Miles says. "It's been a month since Dahlia got out of the hospital and we were placed with Hen and you just forgot about us!" Miles says.

"I didn't forget about you, Miles. I actually listened to you and I know you hate people worrying about you. So, I just pushed my worry away because you seemed fine!! I'm sorry I missed any warning signs." I say.

"You should be." Miles says. These arguments are pathetic. It feels like all I've been doing is arguing with people.

It's mentally exhausting.
