We pull into a parking spot outside of the station

We pull into a parking spot outside of the station. We all get out of the jeep and head inside. "Well, look who it is!" Chimney says, walking over to us. I also met him a few days ago. "This is Christopher and Lydia. You met Lydia the other day." Dad says.

"That's why you look familiar! Good to see you again. Bobby and Hen are upstairs if you guys want to go meet them!" Chimney says. Dad nods before leading me and Chris upstairs. Buck and Chimney follow us.

"Hey, you guys are back. And you brought extras." Hen says. "This is Chris.. and-" Dad starts to say. "Lydia. Nice to see you again. And nice to meet you buddy." Hen says, cutting him off. I laugh slightly.

We all sit in the living area and they all start talking. I listen and just sit there.

"I do a lot of this?!" Chimney asks, making a talk motion with his hand. Chris starts laughing. "Don't worry. We agree with you." Buck says in the middle of laughing. "What's this? I don't remember asking the chief for reinforcements. You any good with the hose, kid?" A guy asks Chris as he walks up to us. "I can try!" Chris says with a smile.

Dad stops laughing suddenly and stands up. "Sorry Cap. My aunt is trying to get off work to come get them, but I didn't know where else to take them." Dad says. "Yes you did. Right here. Buck gave me a heads up and I've already cleared it with the chief." Bobby says. Dad looks over at Buck as a bell starts to go off.

They all get up and head down the stairs. "Well, let's go!" Dad says.

Of course, the first call was a car accident. I sit on the side of the truck watching as everyone springs into action. The jaws of life scares me to this day. I hated that thing. Especially when the man using it to get me out didn't know how to use it.

I watch as Dad uses the jaws of life to get a woman out of a car. I shiver as I hear the woman scream in pain. I look over and Bobby is looking at me, concern on his face. I give him a small smile before looking away. That was embarrassing.

*********

We get back to the station and go back upstairs. Everyone is talking and Chris is talking about how cool it was watching them do their jobs. I'm just sitting there again, fiddling with my fingers as I think about the accident I was in. Not a day goes by that I don't think about it.

It's been over two years, it's pathetic really. My leg bounces as I think about it. I think about Mom screaming my name, trying to get me to answer even though I physically couldn't. I think about how the paramedics were saying my mom needed me, and that I needed to stay awake so they could help me.

"Lydia? Are you hungry?" Dad asks, snapping me out of my thoughts. "No thanks." I say, looking back down at the ground. Dad goes to say something but he's cut off by Aunt Pepa. "I'm here!" She yells from downstairs.

"Let's get you kids downstairs." Dad says. "Bye guys!" Buck says. "Bye!" Chris says before we walk down the stairs.
