I walk into the very crowded hallway

I walk into the very crowded hallway. It's lunch and my first day has been okay. I've only talked to one person and that would be my English teacher. That woman does not know how to stop talking.

I walk down to the cafeteria and walk inside, looking around the room. Tables are starting to fill with people as everyone gets their food. My old school was way smaller than this. There was only like 10 people per grade, sometimes it was even smaller.

I walk out of the cafeteria, feeling overwhelmed and I head towards the library. I got a tour of the school last week, the principal wanted me to know where everything is which I'm really grateful for.

I walk into the library and find a seat somewhere. I take out my phone and just start scrolling on it.

*********

As I'm walking down the hall after lunch, the ground starts shaking. No one else is in the hallway except me. I got lost and I couldn't find my class so I'm late. I look around and see the lockers starting to fall from the wall.

I try to move but I can't keep my balance due to how much the ground is shaking. The lockers fall on me and everything goes black.

*********

I wake up to screams. I open my eyes and look around. I'm trapped by rubble and the lockers that are on top of me. I can hear screams but I don't know where they are coming from.

I try moving but pain shoots up my body, making me scream. "Someone's under these lockers!" I hear a man yell. I hear something clanking against the lockers and my body immediately tenses up. It's the same noise that happened when I was in the car wreck. When they were trying to open my door, it was a clanking noise. The same noise.

"I see her leg!! She's moving!" Another man says as they move rubble around me.

I see light and someone's hand. I look up at the man, my facial expression full of fear. The man takes my arm and pulls me out carefully. He then leans me on the wall as a woman walks up to me.

"Hey. We're going to take good care of you, okay?" The woman says. I nod my head. She takes my blood pressure and looks over my injuries. "What's your name?" She asks, her eyes full of concentration. "Lydia. Lydia Diaz." I say.

"Okay. I'm Sabrina. This is Kyle. We're going to transport you to a hospital nearby. Do you know your parent's numbers?" Kyle asks from beside me. "Uh.. my dad works at a fire station. The 118. His name is Eddie. Eddie Diaz." I say. "Okay. That will work. Tell dispatch to contact the 118." Sabrina says. Kyle nods before turning on his radio.

I zone out as I'm picked up and put on a stretcher. "You're not severely hurt. We just want to take precautions." Sabrina says. I nod my head as they bring me out to the ambulance.

********

They bring me into the hospital and I'm put onto a bed in the ER. "Where is she?" I hear a familiar voice ask at the receptionist desk. "Who are you looking for, sir?" The receptionist asks. "My daughter. Lydia Diaz." The familiar voice says. Dad.

"She's right around the corner. She's okay. Just a bit bruised." The receptionist says. Dad rounds the corner and sees me. He rushes over and pulls me into a hug. Two people are with him. A man and a woman. "What happened?" Dad asks.

"The lockers fell on me from the earthquake. I got lost while trying to find a class. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm not hurt bad. Just bruised and I have a small concussion." I say. Dad nods slowly. "The school said you won't be able to go back for a few weeks. No one will. Your school suffered the most." Dad says.

Everyone else started about three weeks ago, I'm just now coming in. "I'll call Abuela and get her to come get you." Dad says. I nod my head as he pulls out his phone. "Oh! This is Buck and Hen. I work with them." Dad says as he looks over at them. I guess he forgot he came with them. I wave at them and they both smile at me.

Dad walks away when Abuela answers the phone. "Where's Eddie going?" Another man asks as he walks up. "To call someone for his daughter." Buck says, pointing at me. "Oh! Hey. I'm Howie. Everyone calls me Chimney though." The man says, waving at me. "I'm Lydia." I say. "We've heard a lot about you. We've heard you're quite the observer." Hen says with a small laugh.

"Yeah. I guess I am." I say with a laugh.
