Me and Chris sit on Buck's couch as Dad goes to wake Buck up. He's been laid off of work due to his blood clot and Dad is taking the opportunity and letting him watch us.
"Your life isn't over just because you aren't a firefighter, Buck." Dad says as he comes down the stairs, Buck behind him. "Says the firefighter." Buck says.
"Hey Buck!" Chris says. Buck turns around. "Uh.. hey- hey guys. What are y'all doing here?" Buck asks, walking towards us. "They are hanging out with their Buck today." Dad says, picking up Chris and hugging him. "Cause I have work today." Dad says, placing Chris back down.
"Where's Carla?" Buck asks. "She went to Morongo!" Chris says. Dad smiles at him. "So, take them out. Have some fun. Maybe you'll learn something." Dad says, starting to walk past Buck but stops beside him. "They never feel sorry for themselves." Dad whispers to Buck before walking away.
"Love you guys!" Dad yells from the door. "Love you too!" Me and Chris yell back. "Love you, Dad!" Chris yells. I ruffle his hair with a small smile.
"So.. what do you guys like to do for fun?" Buck asks.

We ended up at the pier. I hate rides but I decided to suck it up for today.
We went on roller coasters, the ferris wheel, and even the spiny shark ride. And now, we've settled for cotton candy.
"Is it good?" Buck asks with a small laugh. "Delicious." Chris says, continuing to take massive bites. I laugh. "Just wait for his sugar rush." I say, making Buck laugh even more.

We stand at the end of the pier, Buck sits on the bench, Chris stands on it as me and Chris look at the view. A teddy bear that Chris and Buck won sits on the bench beside them.
"Have you guys thought about what you want to be when you grow up?" Buck asks. "Astronaut or a pirate." Chris says with a smile. "Some good choices.. cool outfits too." Buck says. "No, wait. A firefighter." Chris says. Buck chuckles. "Yeah, me too." Buck says.
"Uh, Chris. If those career paths don't work out, I hope you find something you love. Something you're good at." Buck says. "Something you'll do forever. Because when you do, it's gonna tell you who you are, and it's going to show you the rest of your life. And that is the best feeling." Buck says.
I smile softly, listening to him and watching the waves. "I hope you get that. And I hope you get to keep it. Both of you." Buck says. "You're going to be okay, kid." I hear Chris say, making me laugh slightly.
That's when something catches my attention. And Buck's too. The water is receding. More than it should be. It's away from the pier and no where near it.
"Where did all the water go?" Chris asks.
