It's a few days after New Year's Eve. We had a small get together here for New Year's but it wasn't really that exciting. Everyone seemed off. It was just a weird day.
My bedroom door opens and Mom stands in the doorway. "Lydia. We're about to go." Mom says. "Where are you going, and who is we?" I ask. "Me and your dad are going on a date, sweetheart. I told you this yesterday." Mom says.
"Oh. Right." I say. "Chris is in the living room. So is Miles." Mom says. "Miles?" I ask. "He said he needed to talk to you." Mom says. "Oh." I say, standing up. I walk out of my room and go to the living room. "We'll be back later, okay Lyds?" Dad says. I nod with a small smile.
"Love you guys." Mom says as she opens the door. "Love you too!" Chris says. I wave and they leave. "Sorry.. I should've called but I wanted to talk to you about this in person." Miles says as he stands up from his spot on the couch.
"Well, now you're scaring me.." I say. "It's not a bad thing." Miles says with a laugh. Miles nods his head down at Chris. I nod slowly, getting what he means. "Hey Chris, how about you go get your new toys so you can show Miles?" I ask. "Okay." Chris says excitedly before getting up and walking to his room.
Silence fills the room. "So..." I say. "I like you. I have for a while. I wanted to tell you the other day but you seemed off an-" He starts ranting but I cut him off by placing a kiss on his lips. He freezes. "I like you too." I say with a small laugh. "I could tell, don't worry." Miles says.
"I didn't make it very subtle." I say, looking at him. "I didn't make my crush very subtle either." Miles says. "Yes you did." I say. "No, you're just oblivious." Miles says. I start to say something but Chris comes back into the room.
Me and Miles sit on the couch as Chris starts showing us his toys. I lean my head onto Miles's shoulder as Chris starts showing us his new train.
I must've fallen asleep, because I'm awoken by Miles shaking me. "Lyds? Your Dad is back. He seems upset so I'm going to head home." Miles says as I sit up. "Okay. Sorry for falling asleep and leaving you to babysit." I say with a small laugh. "No, it's fine. He went to bed like thirty minutes ago so I've just been watching a movie." Miles says, shrugging his shoulders.
"Okay. See you later." I say, standing up. "See ya." Miles says before going out the front door then closing it behind him.
I get up from the couch and head to Dad's bedroom. The door is closed. I knock twice before walking inside. "Hey.. are you okay?" I ask. "I'm fine." Dad says. "Where's Mom?" I ask "I don't know, Lydia." Dad says with a scoff. "Did you guys arg-" I start to ask. "Lydia. Please just leave. Go to your room." Dad snaps. "Oh. Sorry." I say, walking out of the room, closing the door behind me.
I go to my room and lay down in my bed. I look at the clock and it's 10:14 PM. It's quite late for him to be just getting home. I close my eyes, deciding to ignore it.
He's clearly mad about something, but I think I've learned my lesson on snooping.
Keywords, I think.
