Sebastian POV

Let's rewind and see what Sebastian has really been up to...

____________

Minutes turned into hours as I occupied a bed in the brightly-lit St. Mungo's Emergency Ward.  Not that one would call my situation an 'emergency'.  Unless you were actively bleeding out, you would have to wait a while.

Thankfully my haul from the Restricted Section was still in my satchel, so I had plenty of reading materials to keep me occupied.

As I read, my thoughts kept drifting to her.

I felt like an arse for leaving Hogwarts without a word to Juliette. I wished I could have at least written her an owl, but my dominant hand was in so much pain by midday that I could hardly use it. I had been forced to leave Eudora to sort my affairs for the afternoon.

St. Mungo's was the right decision, though. The injury was more severe than I had originally thought.

The tendons in my wrist were apparently severed, with some pieces of muscle being lost in the splinching. I had also suffered significant blood-loss, which would explain why I've felt so light headed.

They admitted that if Juliette hadn't been there last night to stop the bleeding, it would have ended badly for me. If I had not come to the hospital, I may not have been able to use my hand again.

The healers reattached my tendons and gave me potions to grow more muscle and replace the blood I had lost. All the while scolding me for not coming in sooner.

They also warned me that it was going to leave a gnarly scar.

I could live with that.

Freshly bandaged and drunk on healing potions, I stepped out of the hospital into the cool London air. It was a positively dreary fall day, the sprinkle of rain only adding to gloom.

Inspired by my afternoon reading, I thought I might pay a visit to my favorite goblin while I was in London.

I found Diagon Alley nearly deserted, with only a few patrons moseying along the street. The storefronts were decorated for Halloween that coming weekend, with enchanted jack-o-lanterns lining the windowsills and sidewalks. It did not take much for Diagon Alley to look spooky, especially in the evening.

I continued down the cobblestone street until I spotted my destination, a modest yellow storefront with a wooden sign swingling gently above the door.

Gould and Sons

Purveyors of Finery and Adornments

A jingling of a bell announced my arrival as I passed through the creaky wooden door. Otherwise, the stop was quiet. I was the only customer.

Glass cases displaying brilliant gemstones and fine jewelry flanked me on either side as I approached the counter at the back of the shop. I scanned the cases, my steps slowing to a halt as I encountered a case of rings.

One in particular caught my eye.

A dazzling sapphire accented on both sides by diamonds, which almost gave the appearance of leaves. If there ever was a ring for my Juliette, that was it.

Perhaps...

A smartly-dressed, older gentleman appeared behind the counter, adjusting his glasses. I pried myself away from the ring and met him at the counter.

"Good afternoon, sir. Welcome to Gould and Sons."

His wife, a Goblin named Pendir, scurried around the counter. She wiped her hands on her blacksmith's apron before extending one to me.

"Ah Mister Sallow! It's been too long." she shook my hand firmly. I was shocked that she remembered my name.

"I thought he looked familiar!" recognition dawned on the man's face. "You bought a goblin's silver necklace from us some years ago. My Pen has always been so gifted with names."

I smiled at the sweet nickname he had for his wife.

"It's been 5 years, how could you possibly remember that?" I asked, removing a parchment from my pocket.

"I remember all the young men in love that come through our doors." his wife replied. "What can we do you for?"

I felt my face flush at her insinuation that I was a man in love.

If I was in love then...

"I'm looking for something quite specific... and I'll need it as soon as possible if it's not too much trouble." I slid the parchment with my crude renderings across the counter.

The couple examined it a moment, exchanging curious looks with one another.

"No trouble at all. This would be quite simple to forge, wouldn't take me more than a couple hours." Pendir took the parchment from the counter and studied it closely. "The enchantment will be..... complex. But I do believe it can be done. Is this for the same lucky lady as last time?" she cocked an eyebrow at me.

"I'm the lucky one, but yes, ma'am. It's for my girl." I let out a breathy chuckle, having told Juliette just this morning what a lucky man I was to call her mine.

Her mouth curved into a smile as she tucked the parchment into the pocket of her apron.

"I'll get to work on this right away, then. Stop by tomorrow afternoon, Mister Sallow. We should have something ready for you by then."

My eyebrows shot up, surprised at the quick turnaround.

"Of course, much appreciated Mrs. Gould. Mr. Gould" I offered them each a nod before turning to leave the shop.

On my way out, I spared one more long glance at that sapphire ring.

Someday...
