Juliette POV

Professor Sallow will not be available this afternoon. If you have D.A.D.A.-related questions, please see Professor Fontaine.

My heart sank as I read the note nailed to Sebastian's office door. We never missed afternoon tea.

I had forgone the professor's morning classes in favor of tidying the room following his apparating accident.  I was so excited to see him, to ask how his hand is healing and finally share the adventure I had with our young ward over the weekend.

Those two sentences ruined my whole day.

One thing about the note that I didn't hate were the last two words: Professor Fontaine. It did have a nice ring to it.

As I turned to leave, I nearly collided with a tall, raven-haired woman in long, flowing black robes.

Deputy Headmistress Eudora Nott.

"Miss Fontaine, I'm glad I've caught you here, most opportune."

"I'm sorry? What do you mean?"

"Professor Sallow has taken ill and will be out for the remainder of the day. Would you be able to make yourself available in his office this afternoon, in the event that any students require assistance? I understand you are intimately  familiar with his lesson plans." she offered a tight smile, her ocean-blue eyes piercing right through me and into my very soul.

I felt my face and neck flush with heat but maintained my composure.

"I'm sorry to hear that he's unwell, I had no idea. I'm happy to cover for him until he returns." I returned her smile to mask my discomfort.

She nodded once before turning to leave, her robes flowing behind her.

As soon as she was out of sight I sprinted to the nearest floo and traveled to the Hospital Wing.

He wasn't there.

I bounded down the stairs of the faculty tower two at a time until I was at the door to his quarters. I knocked and waited.

Silence...

My anxiety dominated my senses and all rational thought went out the window. I peaked over my shoulder to see if the coast was clear.

I'm not proud of this.

"ALOHOMORA"

The lock clicked and the door creaked open.

"Sebastian?" I called into the dimly lit room. "It's me. Just checking to see that you're alright."

More silence....

I crossed his living area to his bedroom door, which stood open. I found his bed empty.

Guilt wracked my insides as I considered whether his wounds were severe enough to warrant a trip to St. Mungo's. I had done everything I could do for him, given my resources and limited training in healing magic, but perhaps I had missed something.

Curse that Room of Requirement.

Defeated, I sat on the edge of his bed and fell backward onto the mattress.

I ran my fingers along his silk sheets, relishing their smooth texture. I stared at his pillow for a good long moment before caving and snatching it from the head of the bed. I hugged it tightly into my chest, inhaling his electrifying scent.
