Bothersome beasts.
I hobbled through the seventh-floor corridor with the slightest limp from taking a Dugbog charge to the leg. Rosalie and I had gotten side-tracked, yet again, stopping to help clear Pitt-Upon-Ford of a Dugbog infestation on the way back from our 'little day trip'.
I felt positively filthy and in need of a bath as I trudged toward the Room. My braid was falling apart and full of leaves, and the hem of my cloak and boots were caked in mud. I was still shivering, chilled to the bone from trapsing around in mud and muck in the middle of November. At least I could be grateful that we had gotten back to the castle in time for dinner, and Rose could rest up before her week started.
Broom and Nabsack in hand, I shouldered my way through the door as soon as it materialized.
I immediately noticed something was off when my feet landed on something soft and my usually-dim atrium was ablaze with the light.
On the ground before me lay a dense blanket of rose petals, forming a trail from the door to the stairs leading to my bedroom. The trail was lined on each side by a hazardous amount of candles.
For the love of Merlin, this man.
I propped my broom against the wall and padded along the trail, eager and anxious to find out what awaited me at the bottom of the stairs.
It was not my birthday, that had passed back in August. We did not have a date planned for tonight, that I could recall. I wracked my brain trying to surmise what would possess this man to break into my Room on a Sunday evening.
MERDE.
If this was Sebastian's doing, it meant that he was in my room for Merlin-knows how long, with unrestricted access to my office and all of the madness within. I had never thought to lock it all away, and it probably would have only made him more suspicious. I scampered down the stairs, preparing for the worst.
I'm going to have a lot of explaining to do.
At the bottom of the stairs the path of roses split in two, bowing out a bit then joining back together on the other side of the room. The two paths created a large ring of rose petals and candles that I cautiously walked to the center of, still entirely oblivious of the occasion.
Perhaps we are having a seance to summon Peeves?
My eyes anxiously scanned the room until they fell on a handsome brunette reclined in my armchair next to the bed, his attention fully captured by the book in his hands. He was looking deadly sexy in a black button down, black trousers and a dark green tie. His glasses balanced precariously on the edge of his nose while his eyes scanned the pages intently. At his feet sat a bouquet of lilacs, arranged neatly in a clear glass vase.
Where does this man keep finding lilacs during this time of year?!
The vase was a thoughtful touch, though, as I would not have to dump out my potion ingredients to make a home for my flowers. Sebastian always thought of those little details that most people would not think to do.
