"The professor and I froze, unable to move or speak yet sharing a solemn understanding. We discovered something we did not even realize we were searching for: An Ancient Magic wielder."

____________
Sebastian POV
"Marry me, Juliette."
I held the little red velvet box between us with sweaty, trembling hands. Inside, a dazzling two-carat diamond ring sparkled in the candlelight.
"Don't you think this is all quite sudden?" Ominis deadpanned.
He leaned against the glass case, chin resting on his fist as if this were the most boring task in the world.

"Did I come on too strong? I came on too strong..." I placed the ring back on the counter next to the dozen other red boxes. "Come on, Ominis, which one?"
"If you get a ring stuck on my fingers, you're buying it for me," he huffed, ignoring my question.
"Oh Ominis, you know you have the most dainty, delicate fingers."
Ominis only grumbled in response.
Mr. Gould, the jeweler, waited on the other side of the counter with the patience of a saint while I searched for the perfect ring for the perfect woman.
I had known since fifth-year that I wanted to marry Juliette, and the past few months together had only affirmed my decision. I wanted to make her mine, officially, whatever that looked like for us.
I would change my career to follow her around the globe on her curse-breaking exploits. I would turn the Sallow estate into the house of her dreams for us to raise our family in.
Was it too soon? Perhaps. We had not even truly exchanged 'I love yous,' we were about to be separated by an entire hemisphere, and we had never even discussed the prospect of marriage.
Still, she was the only woman I ever wanted to ask to marry me. If she said no, I would absolve myself to a lifetime of celibacy.
My plans for the proposal were only born about fifteen minutes ago. Poppy's mention of Diagon alley spurred the perfect gift idea: the sapphire ring I had seen at Gould and Sons. When we arrived, however, the ring had already been sold. I had been forced to begin my conquest of choosing between diamond rings, and thus I decided it was time I propose to the love of my life.
Juliette was worthy of a diamond, anyway, wasn't she?
"Which one do you think she'll love?" I asked Ominis again. I knew I wanted a diamond, but there were so many sizes, shapes cuts, metals, and I had no idea what any of it meant or what Juliette preferred.
