Credits to spiderswithjuice for the storyline of this chapter
Cardan is sitting on his chair in his study, holding a miniature version of Madoc's house that he had made with clay that Taryn had gifted him from the mortal world for Jude.
Even though he knows that Jude hadn't enjoyed her time at Madoc's that much, it'll be ever-so-slightly nostalgic for her, won't it?
Definitely.
'She should be home any minute now,' he thought.
Suddenly, the sound of a door opening can be heard, and Cardan jumps up from his chair, pushing it back, making it make a scraping sound against the floor.
His momentarily lit-up expression fades as he sees The Bomb and The Roach standing in the doorway, looking worried and... sympathetic?
"Hey, guys. Where's Jude? I thought she was with you." Cardan inquires, looking confused, his eyes flickering between the two folk.
The Bomb puts her hand on Cardan's shoulder, "Cardan, you need to stop this. Please. It's been 2 months."
"What do you-" Cardan abruptly stops as the realization dawns on him, hitting him like a ton of bricks.
He crumbles to his knees, "Can I... be alone... for a bit? Please..?" He asks softly, looking at the two with a pleading expression.
"Of course." The Roach says, and then walks out with The Bomb.
Cardan cradles the miniature house against his chest, and looks up at the picture of him and Jude on his desk, but then immediately averts his gaze.
'She's gone," Cardan thinks to himself.
'She's gone because of me.'
'She's gone because I couldn't protect her.'
'She isn't coming back.'
'Ever.'
