Sebastian's POV

"Come on Ominis, you are so stubborn." Sebastian pleaded with his roommate and best friend. "You heard her when you caught her at the Undercroft, she defended me! I know you have a soft spot for people defending me" he gently nudged his elbow into his friend's side.

The boys were sitting on some stairs near each other talking. If Sebastian was truthful, this is how they were much of the time. They were always near each other, it felt peaceful near his best friend and that was an increasingly rare feeling for him. Ever since Anne got cursed, things around him were slowly unraveling and it scared him. He would never ever admit it to anyone though that he was scared, terrified even. However....Ominis knew, he just always knew what Sebastian was feeling.

"Anne loves her too for Merlin's sake!! Iris was very calm and kind to Anne. Anne said she didn't treat her like she was sick, you know that means a lot to her". Sebastian continued his argument. He wanted to spend more time with Iris, but he couldn't do that without getting Ominis on board.

"I don't know, you know how hard it is for me to trust others, and to be perfectly frank, she seems like quite the troublemaker". Ominis calmly, but firmly replied.

"To be perfectly frank" Sebastian mimicked Ominis' refined speech, while reaching over and playfully rustling his friend's hair. Ominis slightly blushed and Sebastian knew he was probably going to be getting his way soon.

"Anne liking her does make me feel slightly better" ....Ominis stated and looked towards Sebastian straight on, his unseeing eyes still carried such intensity. "She is however, an Abbott, and her family is horrid, not Gaunt horrid, but still."

Sebastian's heart skipped a few beats, Ominis was quite regal when he looked so serious. He knew that he would have to put the bravado away and tell him something actually true before Ominis would give in. Sebastian quietly responded with, "she makes me feel at peace too....like you and Anne, she accepts me and seems to have the patience to put up with me".

The heavy sigh that came from Ominis was a sure sign he was getting ready to give in. Ominis was quietly pondering, Sebastian knew to let him have time.

Finally Ominis responded with, "be honest, are you starting to have feelings for her? I've heard from others that she has some striking features, quite a few whispers about her in the halls".

Sebastian whipped his head around to look at Ominis, surprised that he was even thinking this way. Girls, guys, relationships, were NOT something the two of them discussed. A very wide grin slowly spread across Sebastian's face, he couldn't miss this opportunity to tease him.

"Why Ominis Gaunt, could you be jealous?" Sebastian teased, feeling very proud of himself in this moment. "Afraid she could steal my attention away from YOUR striking face"?

Ominis sputtered and angrily replied, "Sebastian be serious! Any romantic feelings for her would further confuse everything going on in your head at the moment. She is an Abbott and I'm always distrustful of old pure blood families. The fact that you are joking makes me even more suspicious, by the way!" He finished emphatically.

Now Sebastian was the one sputtering, realizing his teasing did not have the intended effect he wanted, he had wanted him to flirt with him by complimenting his handsome face." I am just joking around, I have no time to waste or interest in her, I promise".

Ominis raked his fingers through his hair in frustration and resignation. "Fine Sebastian, let's invite her to the Undercroft for some dueling practice".

"Thanks Ominis!!" He clapped his hands on his friend's back, "let's head to class". He should feel bad that he was so shameless with needling Ominis until he got what he wanted, but he couldn't bring himself to.

Sebastian fell silent the rest of the way there and in class he let his brain wander. He had not been entirely truthful to Ominis. He did feel a pull towards Iris, which is why he always called her "Abbott". He was trying to create some distance, didn't want them to feel too close. He didn't quite understand the pull, or the fact that he did find her dark, almost black wavy hair mesmerizing. Her bright blue eyes were always sparkling with curiosity, much like his own. He had landed on that they were kindred spirits, because having any kind of romantic feelings was out of the question.

He slyly glanced over at Ominis, who was paying close attention in class like a good student. His best friend was everything to him. He was loyal, kind, fiercely protective of him and his sister, and was always fully present when he was with Sebastian. He had never been around anyone who was fully present around him, who made him feel like the priority. Of course, it didn't hurt that his best friend was also drop dead gorgeous.

He studied his jaw line, his side profile was impeccable, his hair and eyes were light and made him look like some kind of angel. He was strong as hell to boot, it wasn't easy being blind in the Gaunt family. He survived and flourished in-spite of them, and no one had helped him. He was the badass heir of Slytherin, but he presented himself as quiet and unassuming. Sebastian could feel blood beginning to race places he would rather not let it race to, so he looked away.

Sebastian was head over heels infatuated with Ominis. He began realizing it late last year, when anytime Ominis would brush past him, or hit him playfully, a "zing" would shoot up his body. He had felt similar in 3rd year when he had his first crush on a girl. They never progressed beyond the hand holding stage with that girl, but those tingles had been present then as well. When Ominis had spent some time with him over the summer, they had gone swimming a few times. Seeing his friend without a shirt on and water making the rest of his clothes cling to his body had sealed the deal for him. He was very physically attracted to him.

He remembered he had been quite glad his bottom half was covered by water when Ominis had tripped and fallen into him. Ominis was happy and carefree in that moment. His hair was wet and messy, the water beading off his chest, and he missed a step. When he fell into Sebastian, clinging to his biceps to steady himself and Sebastian had an instant erection. He was able to hide it and play it off, but the whole scene was in his dreams for weeks and he always woke up hard.

Fuck, just thinking about it now was having the same effect. "Get your shit under control Sallow!", he admonished himself. He hadn't decided how he was going to proceed with these feelings.

Ever the researcher, he had quickly found both a boy and a girl to kiss that summer. Both felt pleasant, but nothing like when Ominis would even touch his arm. He spent some time asking questions and finding books on men liking men. It was more common than it seemed, not that Sebastian cared. He was always one to follow whatever rules felt right to him.

Loving Ominis definitely felt right to him....but he did not think that Ominis felt the same way. One thing was for sure, he knew was that he would never, ever let something like that get in the way of their friendship. That meant the world to him and kept him sane.
