"Are you okay? You look pale."
No, I witnessed a murder and escaped my death.
I wanted to scream, but my voice clogged in my throat. Blood was all I could see or smell. I couldn't forget the horrible scene before me no matter how much I tried. a helpless man was lying on the ground, and that monster didn't even flinch while killing him cruelly.
I raised my head to see an elderly woman looking worried, her eyes giving me once over. When I looked down, I realized I was shivering violently, so much that the chair I was seated in was trembling. I didn't notice my teeth chattering incessantly.
Was I okay? How would someone react when they dodge death by a fraction?
"Ye...yes," I stuttered in a barely audible voice.
I heard her let out a pitiful sigh before she patted my shoulder, "Everything will be fine. Have faith in god."
A part of me knew she was assuming I feared for my loved one admitted to the hospital, and another part of me wanted to yell at her for not knowing how it feels to escape your own death.
I don't know whether it was God's help that I could escape the shootout or was it part of something worse that would happen to me in the future. I don't even know how I managed to reach the hospital, but as soon as I got to the safe haven, I slumped on the metallic chair in the reception area.
I witness a murder and a shootout war between mafia gangs. That man, the one who killed the other man right in front of me, was not a human. His aura was screaming of danger that would wipe my existence off this world if I was caught by him. I know he felt my presence when he looked in my direction when a scream escaped my throat before I muffled it. I couldn't see his face or eyes, but I still could feel his stare.
No matter how much I tried not to scream, I couldn't help it when I heard the gunshot. Without looking back, I just ran for my life. I shouldn't have gone to that place in the first place. It will have been better if we sell the jewelry—
Wait, where is my bag?
I frantically looked around but found nothing. I was still clutching my phone as if holding onto it for my dear life, but where is that bag?
No, no, no.......
When the realization hit me, a sob escaped my mouth for a different reason. In my haste to escape, I left my bag there. What will I tell my mother now? How will I arrange for the money by next morning?
I covered my mouth and screamed inwardly for my carelessness.
If something happens to dad, I will be responsible for it. It was for my wedding that he stressed out and suffered a stroke, and now when there was a ray of hope, I blew out the very chance of saving my father.
As if on cue, my phone started ringing, and to my utter horror, mom's name flashed.
"Adah?Adah Malik?"
I got startled when someone called me out. Are they looking for a family member? Are they here to remind me about the payment?
I hastily raised from the seat, but at the very moment, my body swayed, and I ended up in someone's arms. I guess I shouldn't have skipped food when mom asked me to eat.
"Are you alright? Take a seat first," a female voice hit my senses.
I know that voice, but who was she?
I leaned in the seat and closed my eyes to subside the dizziness.
"Here, drink some water," after a few moments, she spoke again and handed me a bottle.
