"Adah is recovering," Tareq said.
That was all I wanted to know. Although I don't deserve to know, knowing that she was safe and with the people she loved gave me a moment of solace amidst the tsunami I was facing.
I hung up the call without another word. I heaved a sigh and leaned back on my chair, closing my eyes. I await the time Tareq would say Adah is happy and smiling like before. But with what I have made her go through, I doubt that day would be any sooner.
"Jahanzeb, ask Saahil to be vigilant. After tonight's rescue mission, Hammad will go haywire and do something drastic in his fury. I can't lose another man," I said, pinching my nose bridge.
I'm relieved that at least Adah is safe and Ahaad is recovering quickly. But he still needs to recuperate his strength. The blast impact was so profound that the medical team had already pronounced him dead on the spot, but it was his will that brought him out of the danger.
"Hammad will desperately try to find the mole who leaked the location of the girls for his whorehouse. Although it was late, we should have checked with Saahil when our attack failed last time," he replied.
"That will only put Saahil in danger, and Ahaad agrees too. Because of our failure, Hammad and Nauman believed we were at the losing end, and that's how they brought their guards down. If we had contacted Saahil right after our earlier mission and he had given us the location, it would have been obvious for them to know we also have a mole in their gang," I replied, feeling tired.
"But was it necessary for you to be involved in the rescue mission that, too, making it obvious that it was you who burned down the place to ashes with his men trapped inside? Osama and I could have taken care of rescuing the girls from Hammad," he said, doing a pathetic job of hiding his sympathy for his boss.
"I have to return the favor to him. How can I miss the opportunity?" I opened my eyes and smirked at him half-heartedly.
"He hurt my man. It's only fair that I hit his entire squad and turned them to ashes," I added with every intent of giving him back tenfold the misery he had put me through for using Adah in his sick game. If he had a grudge, he should have fought like a man fair and square instead of using a woman to keep an eye on me.
"Osama, did that girl talk?" I diverted the topic.
With the way a sinister smirk appeared on his face, I knew he was rather enjoying interrogating that girl.
"I'm glad you asked. Couldn't wait to tell you what she spilled out," he grinned maliciously.
"Spare us the drama and out with it already," Jahanzeb was impatient, and I know why. He finally found his girl and couldn't wait to hold her.
I smiled inwardly, relating to his eagerness and a strange glint in Osama's eyes. It's been a long time since I have seen him so excited, and it has something to do with that maid, Simrah.
"She is Zobiya's sister," he said.
"And?" Jahanzeb asked, but I leaned forward, realizing, "Zobiya is Rafi's girl."
Jahanzeb was slow recollecting, but by the time he understood, I asked Osama, "But the question is, why is she here?"
If it was Zobiya herself, I would have understood she was heartbroken by Rafi's death and wanted revenge, but why her sister? It doesn't make sense, especially when we let her sister go that night and haven't touched her.
"To avenge her sister," Osama said, locking his hands behind his head.
"We already let go of her that night. I personally dropped her near a park to be seen. What is her reason for avenging? That we let her go?" Jahanzeb scoffed, and I narrowed my eyes in contemplation.
