The last fifteen days went like fifteen eternity without Adah.
The only thought that kept me alive was that I had Hammad and Nauman pay the price for hurting Adah and making me lose our child. I missed Ahaad's efficiency in finding the information but did work on closing every source of money for Hammad.
All the gang members who had secret associations with him and have been funding him using anonymous names have been slapped with income tax investigations. Of course, I sent the evidence as a good citizen, which put them on the run for now.
With no financial support, Hammad is bound to break and take drastic action. And that is when I'm going to strike him. I would hit him where it hurt him the most and then get his Labrador to my warehouse to show him my hospitality. My checkmate would be when I corner him and shatter his dream prospect of opening whore house auctioning virgins to foreign bidders.
That would be my last move before I kill him for good. After warning him, he shouldn't have gone ahead with the prostitution racket, shouldn't have played his sick game, and destroyed the only peace I had in my life.
My child!
I closed my eyes, imagining that if it wasn't for that fateful day, would she have eyes like Adah?
I let out a dry chuckle, recollecting the divorce deed I had sent for her a day earlier. Yeah, I love her, but her soul will wither, staying with a dark devil like me. But before I leave her, I want to make sure there is no danger looming around her.
And there was only one solution for Adah to live safely in this world—Hammad had to die. I know it would hurt, Sir, but it was better to have a dead son than a living one like him.
My eyes opened at the incoming call, and I wasn't surprised to see Tareq's name flashing. It has become a ritual for me to hear about Adah before the day ends. Since I can't make myself sleep in the same room that I had tarnished the soul of the woman I love, I seek asylum in my study room.
But what I wasn't expecting was the silence on the other side of the call and recognizing the rasped breathing of the person I longed to hear. I sat up straight, but her screams that night and flashes of seeing her in her blood slapped the reality back to me.
"Just the man I was looking for. I sent the divorce papers. Make that woman sign it as soon as possible," I forced the words, fisting the side rest with all my strain.
I heard the shuffling sound before Tareq sounded from a distance, "Boss, are you sure about it?"
I know on whose insistence he was asking me, putting the call on a speaker. I know Adah was hearing everything and would be hurt by what I was about to say. But her broken heart is way better than living with a bastard like me who would again hurt her just like his father.
"What is there to be sure of? She was a toy, and I had my share with her. Now I want to get rid of it," I said through gritted teeth.
I heard a horrid gasp in the background before something fell on the ground. I rose abruptly at the thought of Adah falling on the ground in disbelief, but I held on to my pretense. She might be delusional right now and is not in the right state to distinguish what is good or bad for her. But I know what is better for her.
Since I forced her to marry me, I would break her free from the imposition. Even if it meant I had forced her to divorce me and paint myself as a monster in her eyes for the last time.
"But you did—" I interrupted Tareq, "Tareq, you can tell me directly if you are interested in her. She is, anyway, a boring fuck. You can have her if you want."
With the way the call ended abruptly, I knew I hit the final nail in the coffin. Throwing the phone on the couch, I grabbed a cigarette box with trembling hands.
