"It isn't much, but you would be safe here," Jasmine hesitates, showing a small room that was her bedroom.
After she woke up and the doctor confirmed she wasn't assaulted by Jahanzeb, she was discharged from the hospital. Since I can't return to the mansion or any hotel, lest they catch me again, Jasmine suggested that I stay in her home. It was almost dawn.
"Sir's people will try to search for you at our places. This should be good for tonight, and tomorrow, Ahaad will take you to the island," Jahanzeb said, glancing at the room and closing the small window.
Jasmine's siblings were sleeping in another room; hence, we had to keep our voices low.
"Any update about Aryan?" I asked, ignoring his earlier words.
"No," he answered but looked at Jasmine and said, "Don't let her out. She has a habit of running away at any given chance."
I narrowed my eyes at his remark but remained silent. He was about to leave when I stopped him, "how can you let him do what he is doing?"
The silence told me I got his attention.
"I honestly don't know what has happened after we left. The only information I have is to keep you hidden from Sir. I have to meet Ahaad since he was the one who informed me," he said reluctantly.
"What will happen to Aryan now?" I asked.
"Only Sir knows," with that, he left me alone with Jasmine.
I stared at the closed door until Jasmine touched my forearm. "You look like you need a good sleep."
"I can't sleep," I walked up to the single bed in the corner and slumped.
Hanging my head between my palms, I kept thinking of how to deal with the situation. I felt her presence beside me before I heard her, "My mother used to say with an empty stomach and troubled mind, you won't get a solution."
"Even with a filled stomach and sleep, there is no solution," I murmured, staring at the uneven flooring.
"What is meant to happen will happen," she said, and I frowned, raising my head at her.
"At least from my personal experience, I can say. There were many things I wanted to find a solution to, but—" She turned towards me and stopped when the realization hit her. She was lost in her thoughts.
"So, you are saying we were meant to meet again in the hospital?" I said, nudging her to divert her mind.
"Maybe," she shrugged and smiled, "I wasn't planning to go to the hospital that day, though."
"And I was to get engaged to someone else," I replied, placing my hands back and leaning.
A comfortable silence fell between us where both of us were lost in our own troubles before she said, "I'll make something to eat."
"I'll help. I don't want to be alone with my thoughts now."
We stepped out and walked to the kitchen. With her flushed face, I know she was embarrassed by the makeshift kitchen— including one induction stove and a small fridge in the corner. When time comes, even the luxury of a mansion will not comfort you as much as her kitchen was comforting me at that moment.
"I'm bad with measuring, but I can work on cutting or washing," I said, waiting for her instruction.
"There isn't much. Some eggs and bread," she said, checking the fridge.
"Wonderful. I can't flip an omelet. I'll chop the onion and tomatoes; you do the rest," saying that, I grabbed a knife and started peeling.
Jasmine glanced at me, grabbing the bread and a bowl. I didn't want to make it awkward for you, and started narrating my first time in a kitchen. How Matt and June encouraged me while Osama was a prick.
