"Sir.."
Fuck! This is not good. Sir was supposed to be at the funeral and not come here till evening. I stood up and hid Adah behind me even though my body screamed in agony at the whip marks on my back.
"Rudaba is a sensitive girl. She thinks through her heart and shows mercy by sending you here. Good that Ruhail informed me immediately; otherwise, I would have missed this emotional moment," Sir looked like he was out for blood. I have never seen him like this. Ruhail's presence didn't sit well with him. He wasn't involved in mafia business.
"Sir, please. This has nothing to do with her," I begged, my pulse quickening, glancing at the men surrounding us.
I know the taste of betrayal, especially when done by someone you love and trust. What Sir was feeling is what I have been burning into for years. I never thought a day would come when I would be on the other side of it.
Adah clutched my shirt from behind, and even without looking, I knew she was terrified by him. If Adah's presence was worse for my plan, then Sir's entry made it even more complicated.
"She is innocent," I repeated, stepping back after seeing him enter the room.
I was not afraid of dying at Sir's hand, but Adah had to leave before things went down the drain. At the snap of his finger, his guards marched towards us and pulled Adah away from me. I wound my arms around her waist and covered her when they started kicking me to tear us apart.
Adah, too, wound her arms around my neck and nuzzled her face into my neck, crying. Then I saw one of them aiming the back of his gun for her. I flipped our position and groaned at the impact on my head, but I refused to let her go. I was already weak with last night's interrogation, and with the hits I received, my wounds opened up.
Feeling lethargic, I fell to the ground, covering Adah with my body. Her screams were what kept me awake, but I knew it wouldn't take much time for me to lose consciousness. I only prayed that Ahaad could read the situation and execute the next step of our plan ahead of time.
Suddenly, the rain of kicks stopped, and in that moment of silence, I heard the click of a safety lock and then Adah's horrid whisper.
"With one click, his brain would splatter over your face. Choose wisely," Sir's voice boomed.
I know he was emotionally manipulating her, knowing I would rather die than leave her. Hence, he focuses his target on her vulnerability.
"No, please, don't," she begged, staring at the gun and pushing me with her trembling hands.
"No...Adah.. Don't go," I wheezed, refusing to budge.
"Take him away," Sir ordered, and immediately, his men grabbed my arms. With Adah resisting, my hold on her slipped, and they dragged me away, forcing me on my knees.
Adah's scream got my attention, and I raised my head to witness Sir fisting her hair, "It's because of you."
I thrashed in their hold and even pulled one down before head-butting her. My vision blurred, but I had to save her. Before I could hit the other one, a shot was fired, and I froze, hearing Adah's shrill.
"I thought you learned your lesson with your first experience, but you are still that dense boy, Aryan. I saw myself in you once. You had the fire to devour anyone, causing hurdles in your way. I saw you have the ethic to never hurt innocents and have gained strength with your acumen. Your men were loyal to you, and you cared for them like your own. You snuff when need be while considering opinions. But this one changed you," saying that he backslapped Adah, who fell before him.
"No father would choose someone else over his son, but I did for you. Because I always thought of you as my own. But this woman came between a father and a son. She is the reason why you are standing opposite of me," he snarled and yanked her hair roughly, making her head tilt back with a groan.
