Chapter 72: It's How You Use It

Izuku Midoriya woke up to his phone going off the hook. He picked it up and saw he had multiple missed calls from almost everyone in his class, Nejire's parents, and his mom.

A phone call was currently coming through from Nejire, "Hello?"

"Honey. Can I ask a question."

"Yes? Why couldn't you?"

"Ok. Why is my tuition paid off?"

"What do you mean?"

"I think you know what I mean."

"Oh. Um. Well. I kind of paid off your tuition before I left for the summer camp."

"Why!?"

"Um because I could? And I had the money? "

"That isn't the issue! Do you know how expensive tuition is!?"

"Nope."

"Huh? What do you mean?"

"Since I got first place in the entrance exam my tuition was fully paid for."

"Oh! I completely forgot about that! But still! Tuition is 14,346,000 yen a year! That's 100,000$ a year in America! You must have spent all your money!"

"Honey I love you. And I 100% would spend all my money to cover your tuition. But it didn't even make a dent."

"What do you mean? Izuku how rich are you?"

"Uhhhh."

"I-Z-U-K-U."

"Well um. Let's just say it wasn't just your tuition I covered."

"Who's!"

"Um Mirio, Amajiki's, and most of my class."

"How are you so rich!?"

"Um well the money I got from the merch I talked with a financial advisor about investing and stuff I could do to make more money and I did what he told me and it worked."

"What exactly did he tell you?"

"Well I made a bunch of investments and every four or three months I get a check with an investment return and I can chose to put in more or I can keep it at what it is at. And um well you know the apartments my mom lives in?"

"Yeah? What about them?"

Silence

"No. You didn't."

"I um. Bought the entire complex."

"Oh sweet mother of god. So not only did you buy your mom's apartment complex you also paid for a shit ton of people's tuition!"

"Yes? Is that bad?"

She sighed, "It isn't bad. Just. That's a lot of money. Are you sure you should have done that?"

"Don't worry. I only paid off the people who were struggling with tuition.. For example. You, Mirio, and Tamaki's families all had to take out a loan of some sort to cover tuition. Your parents got a second mortgage on their house. Mirio had to take out a student loan with an absurd interest rate. And Tamaki's family had to take out a third mortgage while still paying off their second. Most of my class are in the same boat. I don't like it but money makes the world spin and I have a lot of it. So I wanna do good with it. You know I am not one for fancy stuff anyway so I don't spend a lot. Which is why I am also looking into charities that could benefit from having more money."

Nejire smiled over the phone, "You surprise me more and more everyday baby."

Izuku smiled back, "I surprise myself too. Hey I got another call coming in. Can i call you later?"
