Chapter 28

"Drew Anthony Salisbury! I officially hate you with all my heart" I cried as he tugged me towards the looming pink structure before us that stood sentient like the very personification of torture.

He pretended to have not heard my declaration and continued on his path, bee lining straight for the pink monstrosity.

"I thought mates were supposed to care about each other" I jabbed at him and he rolled his eyes.

"Forgot about even trying to get out of this Amberry! You need to get over this silly fear and I am going to help you overcome it, ok?"

I let out a cry of frustration and let him lead me into the vacant seat waiting for us. I strapped myself in and shut my eyes as he sat beside me, trying desperately to ignore the feeling of doom and despair that was blossoming in my stomach like roses in the summer. His hand encased mine in a firm grip and his breath was like a gentle caress upon my skin as he whispered words of comfort into my ear – of which I was thankful.

"You're going to be just fine. I love you and I would never ever make you do anything that would even remotely hurt you"

I let out a long breath and opened my eyes to look at him. He was looking back at me with an expression that made me trust him and believe every word he said. Not trusting my voice I nodded and gripped tightly onto his hand as the rollercoaster began to make its way up the steep slope. As we inched closer and closer to the tip of the incline – like some sort of huge mechanical caterpillar – my heart thudded away like a hammer in a blacksmith's workshop. It was only when we made it to the very pinnacle that I realised my mistake; but now it was far too late.

After what seemed to be many hours of screaming my soul out, the chairs came to a halt and I opened my eyes. Drew was watching me with a worried frown. I probably looked like I had just seen a ghost. I was still clutching onto Drew's hand in a death grip.

"Amberry..."

"Drew I can't...I can't believe we just survived that! I am never ever going on that thing again" I swallowed back tears.

Everyone on the ride was beginning to leave and Drew stood up and observed me with concern.

"Can you walk or do you want me to carry you out?" He asked and I stood up slowly feeling like my bones had been replaced with jelly.

"I think I'll be fine" I whispered but he didn't look convinced.

I made my way slowly out of the ride and into the summer day outside. The scent of cotton candy and fried food wafted through the atmosphere and the sound of people screaming reached my ears. Drew's hand found mine and we made our way towards a cotton candy stand. From what I had learned so far about him, he loved sweet food as much as I liked spicy.

After paying for our cotton candy - he begrudgingly let me pay much to my delight - we made our way over to a small sitting area that had been set up for families to have picnics.

"I'm sorry that I made you go on that ride. You were screaming the whole time" he said glancing at me.

A giggle left me as he tried not to wince.

"I am kind of glad I did it though" I said which erased the sheepish look on his face.

"So now can we go on the teacups?" I asked and he rolled his eyes with a dramatic sigh.

"Can I at least finish eating my candyfloss before I abandon my masculinity for you?" He grumbled.

"Hey! You won't be any less of a man if you go on the kiddy rides. People who think otherwise are just little turnips" I scowled at him.
