Drew held me bridal style - much to my annoyance and Victor's amusement - as we left the woods behind us. As we approached civilization I told him to let me down as I could walk on my own feet but that just made him hold on tighter. It was as if now that I had been in a dangerous situation he was going to stick us together with superglue.
My face began to flush with heat as we emerged from the woods and found ourselves in the centre of attention from what seemed to be dozens of people. They were all scattered in circles and clusters on the huge sprawling lawn of the house I had fled yesterday.
Drew didn't seem to mind the attention. In fact it seemed as if he was welcoming it, as if he wanted everyone to see us together. Maybe being an overly possessive a** **** was part of the whole mates thing. I'd have to ask later.
I was pulled out of my reverie when a woman came towards us with a wild cry that I could only describe as furious and motherly at the same time. I could quite literally feel Drew's heart speed up and spots of sweat began to make their way across Victor's forehead. I could only assume this woman was their mother.
"Drew Anthony Sallisbury and Victor Edward Sallisbury!" She shrieked as she engulfed Victor in a bone crushing hug.
She had flung herself at Victor with such force that he staggered backwards a few steps.
"Mom, look we're fine okay?" Victor mumbled as he held onto her.
"Do you not understand how utterly foolish it was to leave the pack when we were under attack and run off! I was worried sick!" She said as she let go of him and turned to Drew.
She noticed that her son was carrying a girl in his arms and her eyes met mine and a strange look appeared over her features - almost reminiscent of the look I had seen on Drew's face when he found out about the emergency. Her bright green eyes left mine and she turned her gaze towards Drew before a look of elation sprung upon her face.
Before I could comprehend what was happening she had rushed over to me with a grin on her face. Tugging me away from her son - who let go with a dramatic huff and scowl - she smothered me in a motherly embrace.
"What's your name sweetheart?" she asked after a while.
I swallowed - my throat was parched.
"Amberia Abbencroft"
A smile greeted my reply.
"I am Drew's mother. You can call me Ellie" she said and I returned her smile.
She looked like a genuinely nice person.
"Mom I need to take Amberry inside. We have a lot to discuss and we should all go inside. There has been a breach to the Lunar code" Drew sighed as he walked up behind me and placed an arm around my waist.
A collective gasp echoed around the clearing and there suddenly seemed to be a shift in the atmosphere. Clearly whatever this 'Lunar code' was it was important to them.
A man stepped forward and placed a protective arm around Ellie. He shared the same golden hair that both Victor and Drew were blessed with. Much like the other men I had seen so far here, he was well built and muscular. What set him out from those others, however was the look of wisdom in his piercing hazel eyes and the powerful aura that hung about him.
Something told me he was the one in charge here. I suddenly felt intimidated and took a step backwards and bumped into Drew.
Ignoring my actions his father approached me with a warm smile that sent the skin around his eyes crinkling. He towered over my meek 5'3 frame.
